Minecraft developers, Mojang Studios have announced that Minecraft Dungeons, the spin-off to the legendary Dungeon Crawler co-op, will be getting a brand new DLC along with one of its biggest free updates yet. Titled ‘Flames of the Nether’, it will be the fourth DLC to be added to Dungeons since its release in May 2020 and will launch on February 24th.
Detailing the ambitious release on a blog post on the Minecraft website, Mojang said the DLC will bring players to the realm of the Nether through a new story and offer not three but six new missions. The DLC will also introduce two new skins, a Baby Ghast pet, new artifacts, weapons, and gear for players to collect. As for the free update, it will add a new major feature into the game called Ancient Hunts.
Ancient Hunts are new end-game missions that include procedurally generated maps and ancient enemies to reward players with high-end Gilded equipment. Players will also get a chance to earn the new Gold currency during Ancient Hunts that can be used at the new Piglin merchant stationed at the player’s camp. However, what exactly the Piglin merchant will offer in exchange of gold is not yet known. The update will also bring some changes and additions to the Apocalypse Plus mode.
Minecraft Dungeons’ free update and The Flames of the Nether DLC will be available on Xbox One, PS4, Switch and PC. This will be the first time that Minecraft, like its ARPG counterparts, will feature true end-game content. This DLC will also be the first release since last December’s Howling Peaks which was the first inclusion in the game’s new Season Pass.
Do note that while Flames can be bought separately, buying the already-available Season Pass will be a much more lucrative deal; the Season Pass will give players access to all four expansions i.e. Howling Peaks, Nether realm, Ocean Biome and the mysterious End dimension.
