Microsoft partners with Inworld AI to develop AI tools for game devs

The AI boom is upon us with the advent of ChatGPT and many other tools that have cropped up in recent times. Microsoft is already one of the leaders in the AI race, and they are looking to consolidate their position.

General Manager of Gaming AI at Xbox, Haiyan Zhang, has expressed that Microsoft and Xbox aim to make game development easier and broaden gaming horizons with their latest multi-year collaboration with Inworld to develop an AI toolkit for Game developers.

The primary objective is to offer game creators accessible and innovative AI tools for crafting dialogues, stories, and quests. Haiyan Zhang said that “with better tools, creators can make even more extraordinary games.”

For those who are imbued with what AI can achieve for game development, a developer earlier this year demonstrated its true powers. The developer used Open AI’s ChatGPT-4 to craft a video game within a minute.

The partners, Inworld, are experts at building AI-driven game dialogue and narrative tools that are scalable very quickly. This partnership will bring Inworld’s expertise with generative AI models for character development and Microsoft’s cutting-edge cloud-based AI solution.

In their official blog, Microsoft has mentioned that the toolkit will comprise several AI-based tools that will make life so much easier for game developers. This will include an AI-design copilot.

The AI-Design Copilot assists game developers in getting creative and turning prompts into “detailed scripts, dialogue trees, quests, and more.” There will also be an AI character runtime engine.

This runtime engine can be incorporated into the game client. This will allow Xbox titles to have entirely new narratives and dynamically generated stories, quests, and dialogues, meaning no two players will have the same game experience.

AI is changing the gaming landscape as well, not just on the user end but also on the developer end. This will make life easier for the developers who can now focus on more creative tasks and let AI take over the repetitive manual labor, the results we can expect in the years to come.
