Does Meg 2: The Trench have Post-Credit Scenes?

Warner Bros. brings back its shark-themed action franchise with a bang, this time with even more exaggerated proportions! This brings us to the question of whether the film has a post-credit scene, teasing even more adventures in the future.

The first The Meg movie was an unexpected box office sensation, allowing the studio to turn the novels into a big movie franchise.

Meg 2 continues the story of Jonas Taylor several years after the megalodons emerged as Statham’s character faces another challenge that involves fighting even more sharks and some nefarious humans!

MEG 2: THE TRENCH - OFFICIAL TRAILER

The anticipation for Meg 2: The Trench was skyrocketing, even before it hit the theaters or streaming platforms. The new franchise director, Ben Wheatley, has expressed his desire to make Meg 3 and continue the adaptation of Steve Alten’s novels.

Hollywood has embraced the trend of using post-credits scenes to hint at future sequels. So, does this mean we have a post-credit scene hinting at Meg 3’s premise?

Unfortunately, Meg 2: The Trench doesn’t have a post-credit scene at the end. There’s no additional footage anywhere within the film. So, audiences shouldn’t expect a mid-credit scene as well.

The absence of a post-credits scene in Meg 2 should not be too shocking. The first one also did not have one, but The Meg’s somewhat open-ended conclusion still kept the possibility of more adventures alive.

The same applies to Meg 2: The Trench. By avoiding an end-credits scene, Warner Bros. and the franchise’s creative team have not limited themselves by prematurely hinting at what might happen next. It ensures that Meg 3 can be more natural and not restricted to what fans expect right after watching Meg 2: The Trench.

Another factor that makes an end-credits scene unnecessary is the uncertainty of a sequel. Warner Bros. would be interested in making Meg 3 if the sequel performs well at the box office. However, that notion is still somewhat unpredictable.

By avoiding extra scenes after the credits, the studio avoids making early commitments to the franchise and can calmly assess its box office performance.

This is why Meg 2: The Trench’s decision to skip a post-credits scene was wise, even if the franchise continues eventually.

About Meg 2: The Trench

The Meg 2: The Trench is a sequel to the 2018 movie, The Meg, starring Jason Statham. The original was loosely based on a 1997 book by Steve Alten titled Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror.

Ben Wheatley will be helming the sequel and written by Dean Georgaris, Jon Hoeber, and Erich Hoeber. The sequel is based on another book by Steve Alten, titled The Trench.

Statham will return as rescue diver Jonas Taylor and Bingbing Li as oceanographer Suyin. Additional story or cast details haven’t been revealed yet but it can be expected to be on the same lines of rescuing underwater teams from a killer megalodon.
