Jonas Taylor has shot to fame after the first film’s events and has become an environmental champion in this film. The meg-killer has not settled for a quiet life of leisure but has taken on a new mission as an eco-warrior, hunting down those who harm the ocean.

He also continues to explore the depths of the Mariana Trench, along with his old pals Mac and DJ and a new team equipped with advanced technology.

However, life has not been too kind as his lover from the first film passed away, leaving him to care for her niece Meiying, a 14-year-old kid. Meanwhile, Meiying’s uncle Jiuming has invented a series of robotic suits that allow humans to withstand the immense pressure of the deep sea.

The film starts with Haiqi, a friendly megalodon (irony?), strolling about the waters with Jiuming. Haiqi has been raised in captivity by them and has learned to recognize human commands using a unique clicker device.

However, she has been behaving somewhat oddly despite years of education. This coerces Taylor, Jiuming, and other divers to prepare for an expedition in the Trench again! The Mana One team discovers a research base at the bottom of the trench and realizes that nefarious mining activities are taking place under the leadership of Montes.

Suddenly, Haiqi escapes, and the crew realizes that it’s mating season for the megs.

As Montes unleashes a devastating blast to get rid of Taylor and his crew, it tears apart the trench’s natural thermocline and breaks the barrier for the sharks.

Three monstrous sharks emerge from the depths and race toward the surface. The survivors of Mana One have no choice but to trek three kilometers across the ocean floor to reach the safety of their base.

Along the way, they make a shocking discovery: someone has sabotaged their rescue vessels, and a traitor lurks among them. Surrounded by perilous creatures of the deep, Taylor, Meiying, Jiuming, and Rigas manage to reach the undersea base, but not without paying a heavy price in lives and friendships.

They soon realize that the traitor is Driscoli. She reveals that she funded Mana One as a cover to seize Jiuming’s technology and exploit the ocean for her own gain.

Driscoli sends a squad of mercenaries to Mana One to eliminate or capture any rebels, forcing Mac and DJ to go into hiding. Taylor and Jiuming flee the base by hijacking a submersible and heading for Mana One.

One of the colossal sharks breaks through the glass, killing Jess and putting everyone on Mana One in danger. Taylor, Jiuming, Meiying, Rigas, Mac, and DJ will now have to face the unending rampage of the megs, along with traitors in their own group. What a mess!

The spectacular conclusion begins with Jiuming suggesting that the megs will head toward the nearest landmass, i.e., a massive tropical resort called Fun Island.

On reaching the island, they discover that it is filled with tiny (read: huge) megalodon pups, one of which devours Driscoli.

The undertaking is enormous, but Jonas tries to repeat his heroic feats from Meg 1 and shoots off to the ocean with three explosive harpoons to deal with the megs. Meanwhile, Mac and Jiuming try to fight a giant squid with a stolen helicopter!

Taylor kills one meg with the harpoon after a fierce face-off. The second meg is our beloved Haiqi, and she eats the giant squid to save the day for Jiuming. The final meg is killed after a helicopter blade impales it and cuts its brain in half!

The concluding scene is anticlimactic and gives us King-Kong-Jia vibes. The group sees the last meg approaching, but it turns out to be Haiqi. Jiuming uses the clicker device and commands it to back off. Surprisingly, she listens, and Jiuming’s pet megalodon steals our hearts at the very end!
