Park Hyung-sik as Jung Yi-hyun

The former idol, Park Hyung-sik, made his breakthrough in acting through the 2013 drama Heirs. He debuted as a member of ZE:A in 2010. Despite constantly taking part in cameos and theatrical productions, he started his solo career years later. Happiness marks Hyung-sik’s first drama after completing his conscription in January 2021. His notable K-dramas include Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth, Strong Girl Bong-soon, and Suits.

Hyung-sik plays Jung Yi-hyun, an honest and intelligent detective who has romantic feelings for his friend, Yoon Sae-beom.

Han Hyo-joo as Yoon Sae-beom

One of the IT actresses in South Korea, Han Hyo-joo’s popularity far precedes her name. The Blue Dragon Award-winning actress made her come back to the Korean entertainment industry through Happiness. The veteran actress has been active since 2005 and bagging multiple major and minor awards since 2006. Her notable projects include W, Brilliant Legacy, Heaven & Earth, and The Beauty Inside.

Han Hyo-joo plays Yoon Sae-beom, an intellectual and tactical Seoul Police Operations member who hates injustice. She and Yi-hyun graduated together from high school and maintained a friendly relationship.

Jo Woo-jin as Han Tae-seok

Another veteran actor in Happiness is Jo Woo-jin. Known for his supportive roles in classic K-dramas such as Goblin, Chicago Typewriter, Mr. Sunshine and My Love from the Star, Woo-jin has multiple awards, including the Blue Dragon Awards, in his kitty.

Jo Woo-jin as Han Tae-seok

He plays Han Tae-Seok, a lieutenant colonel who worked in the Armed Forces Medical Command. Tae-Seok is introduced as the man who holds the key to the infectious disease plaguing the tower.

With the three leads in the front and tens of residents by their side, Happiness becomes more intense and gruesome with each episode. The viewers seem to love the ironic play on the title as for the residents, the plague evokes anything but a happy emotion.

Betrayal, psychological battles, human tendencies for survival, class distribution, and more – K-drama Happiness might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it is a tasteful cup of tea nevertheless.

Happiness airs every Friday and Saturday on tvN at 10:40 PM KST. It’s also available to stream on Viu and iQIYI.
