Max Greenfield Honors Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour with a New Girl Easter Egg

Max Greenfield, best known for his role as Schmidt in the popular sitcom New Girl, paid homage to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour by dropping an easter egg about an episode from New Girl season 2, where Swift makes a cameo appearance.

Taylor Swift made a guest appearance as Elaine in the New Girl season 2 finale, where she ruined Cece’s arranged marriage to Shivrang by declaring her love for him. Swift’s character played an important role in shaping Schmidt and Cece’s love story in the series.

Elaine’s confession led Shivrang to elope with Elaine, leaving Cece free to confess her true feelings for Schmidt. The scene was inspired by Swift’s song, Speak Now, and was itself a tribute to the pop sensation.

Greenfield showed his appreciation for Swift’s Eras Tour in Los Angeles by wearing a friendship bracelet that was a reference to her cameo on New Girl season 2.

The bracelet had the word “Elaine” on it, which was the name of Swift’s character in New Girl season 2. Check out Greenfield’s Instagram post here:

Greenfield participated in a tour tradition that involves fans exchanging friendship bracelets based on Swift’s lyrics. He shared his bracelets on Instagram, one of which had the words “Elaine’s Big Day”. This was a nod to the episode of New Girl where Swift played Elaine, the woman who ruined Cece’s wedding.

Greenfield’s bracelet attracted attention from both Swifties (Taylor Swift’s fans) and New Girl fans. Other than Swift’s appearance, the series also had other references to Taylor Swift. For instance, the show’s protagonist, Jess is an enthusiastic and eccentric teacher who openly admires Swift and her music.

In a memorable scene that became a popular meme, Jess is shown sobbing with a glass of wine, saying, “I just wanted to listen to Taylor Swift alone.”

Swift’s influence on New Girl is evident throughout the show. The characters often mention Swift’s name or lyrics in relation to their emotions or situations. For example, they talk about having a “Taylor Swift-like range of emotions” or comment on her famous relocation to New York City.

Moreover, the show features a viral scene where Jess cries while listening to Swift’s music, and Nick dances to her song “22” for a long time.

Swift’s cameo on New Girl was a memorable moment for the show, but it also created a minor inconsistency in the plot. However, this does not disregard her impact on the series, which shares many themes with her music.

The characters of New Girl are all navigating their early adulthood, facing challenges in their relationships, careers, and friendships. Swift’s songs could provide a fitting soundtrack for their journeys, as they express similar emotions and experiences. The show remains a beloved comedy of the 2010s, and its stars also cherish it in a special way.
