3. Episode 2 Recap
Mash attends the Easton Magic Academy’s entrance exam. Only approximately 3% of candidates are accepted. Thus, the exam was well-known and was scheduled to be administered by Professor Claude Lucci. When the professor peeked out the window, Mash was pumping iron, sitting on an imaginary chair, and reading health books. All of this left him with a negative impression of Mash.
Claude Lucci hoped Mash would fail his admission exam, but he passed each level somehow. As a result, he summoned a labyrinth, from which each applicant was to try to reach the destination in time. Mash met Lemon Irvine here, who attempted to keep him from proceeding with the exam.
Mash fled when he realized this. When a sphinx attacked Lemon, Mash returned to her place and saved her. Mash broke through the labyrinth’s walls to reach the target with little time remaining in the exam. However, the other contenders were dissatisfied with Mash’s techniques and began to complain.
That’s when Lemon decided to tell everyone how Claude Lucci had asked her to prevent Mash from passing the exam. He would accept her to the academy in exchange for this. After learning the truth, Claude tried to fail Mash and Lemon, but Mash shattered his wand. Headmaster Wahlberg then emerged and took over the tests.
He started the final interview session of the admission exam with Mash as the first candidate. Wahlberg started the interview by asking Mash about his decision to save Lemon, and then he sought to put Mash to the test with his spell. Despite not possessing any magic, Mash could pass the test and gain admission.
Soon after he entered, it became clear that his lack of magic had set him back significantly in his quest to become a Divine Visionary. The episode concludes with him meeting his flatmate at the academy, Finn Ames, who decides to avoid him at all costs.
