Masato Hisa has always been at the forefront in integrating new methods in his works. While many mangakas choose to stick to traditional methods for drawing manga, he is a proponent of integrating digital art in traditional manga. His new work seems to be no exception either.

Masato Hisa, the mangaka behind Kamuya Ride, has announced his new manga Mirrorman 2D. The upcoming manga is a reboot of the original TV series Mirrorman by Tsuburaya Productions on its 50th Anniversary.

The official announcement for the manga was accompanied by a visual.

This time, I will draw the manga “Mirrorman 2D” which was rebooted based on the 1971 video work “Mirrorman” by Tsuburaya Productions.

English Translation, Twitter Translate

The visual shows the design for the two main characters of the series. The character on the left side is probably the scientist Professor Mitarai who is the Mirrorman’s friend. The character on the right side is probably Kyotaro Kagami, the Mirrorman in the series.

The design for the new Mirroman is dominated by green, unlike the previous plain gray version. Judging from the visual’s artstyle, Masato Hisa has decided to go for his usual digital artstyle aesthetic.

The manga will be serialized on the Tsuburaya Imagination Platform and Kompre Website from July 30, 2021.

Although Mirrorman may seem remarkably familiar to the well-known Ultraman, it is a different type of story. Unlike the light-hearted action-oriented Ultraman, Mirrorman is a little bit of a dark twist on the genre. It tends to focus on the science fiction aspect rather than the action.

Despite Mirrorman’s local popularity in the 70s, it is not well known today. It often gets mistaken for the more popular Ultraman. The reboot manga will surely catapult the franchise’s popularity to its original glory.

While the new fans will definitely enjoy the manga adaptation, some older ones might just join in too.

About Mirrorman

Mirrorman is a 1969 manga series produced by Tsuburaya productions two years before the production of the TV series of the same name. It was written and illustrated by Super Jetter creator Fumio Hisamats.

In 1980, an evil alien race known simply as the Invaders are about to take over the Earth, using assorted daikaiju and other fiendish plots. Assigned to investigate this threat is an organization called the Science Guard Members (SGM).

But another hope comes from someone, unbeknownst even to himself, possessing otherworldly power. Professor Mitarai, the leader of SGM, finally shares a secret with his foster son, a young photojournalist named Kyôtarô Kagami, a secret only he himself knows: Kyôtarô is a half-caste of an alien father and a human mother.
