A class trip to France quickly takes an interesting turn in episode 1 of Masamune-kun’s Revenge R, titled “The Wee Parisian Mademoiselle.”

What originally was supposed to be an innocent trip to France with the class takes Aki and Makabe down an exciting route. They have a chance encounter with a crazed French otaku girl obsessed with rom-com mangas and wants Makabe to model for her.

However, both Makabe and Aki are extremely against the idea, but it soon turns out they don’t have much of a choice. Through Muriel’s connections, they are quickly forced to make a decision.

Makabe is now forced to help Muriel with her rom-com manga, but he will likely not model for her straight up, especially when Aki is right there. Aki is yet to show her a display of Japanese romance, and this may be the perfect setting for Makabe to take over.

While Muriel eagerly watches to find out what she’s talking about, Makabe takes the lead, acts out a typical rom-com trope, and possibly even goes in for a kiss. However, the chance of him being slapped away is more probable this early in the story.

Makabe Masamune wakes up another day feeling full of himself, posing in front of the mirror as he prepares for the class trip to France. At the same time, in Aki’s mansion, she also prepares to leave. After a quick plane ride, Kojuurou and Futaba are both channeling their total tourist energy, being excited about everything.

Makabe sees people kissing all over the place and finds that this may be the perfect place to execute his plan with Aki. He’s interrupted by Muriel bumping into him, and she immediately begins to freak out about the fact that he’s Japanese, especially since she wants to draw manga.

She finally gets to the point and wants Masamune to be her model for the manga, but he still has to keep his promise to Aki and be with her for the vacation. Meanwhile, Fujinomiya and Kojuurou are checking out some classical art in the museum.

As Makabe and Aki walk around the city, they get surrounded by many intimidating gang members who corner them. They’re soon revealed to be part of Muriel’s brother’s organization, forcing them to abide her wishes and becoming her rom-com model.

Muriel is ecstatic that Masamune showed up, and he takes a look at her draft and starts criticizing her immediately. They immediately realize their cultural differences; people don’t reveal their feelings so quickly in Japan as in France.

Aki has to show Muriel what Japanese romance is like but completely blanks out how to demonstrate it. Away from all this chaos, Fujinomiya and the other girls enjoy a pleasant French breakfast as they gossip about Masamune since he has rejected her.

Masamune-kun’s Revenge is a manga by Hazuki Takeoka and Tiv which was originally serialized in Monthly Comic Rex Magazine by Ichijinsha from October 12 to June 2018. It received a 12-episode anime in 2017. A second season will be released in July 2023.

The series revolves around Masamune, a guy who used to be chubby and after getting bullied by Aki Adagaki, he decided to transform himself. Cut to high school when he has become slim, studious, and athletic. Now, Aki can’t recognize him.

Thus, Masamune swears that he will make Aki fall in love with him and then reject her so that he can take revenge.
