Believe it or not, Marvel once made a comic that was printed on actual toilet paper, and it made a comeback this April Fool’s Day. The comic came out in 1979 as part of a deal with a gag product company called Oh Dawn!, starring Spider-Man and the Hulk.
The comic has become a legendary item for comic fans and a super rare collectible. After many decades, Marvel has finally made it a digital comic for fans to enjoy.
The comic story, now called ‘Spider-Man & Hulk: Toilet Paper Infinity Comic, has been renamed from The Gamma Gambit. Fans can find it on Marvel Unlimited and enjoy the 1979 special with the same art and coloring (all blue) as before.
The comic was made by Jim Salicrup and Michael Higgins. They are credited at the end of the comic, along with Annie Cheng (Associate Manager, Digital), Tim Smith 3 (Sr. Manager, Digital), C. B. Cebulski (Editor in Chief), and a shout-out to Steve Wacker.
The Gamma Gambit shows how Peter Parker and Bruce Banner end up at the same event where a gamma generator is present.
But things go south when the Leader shows up and attacks Peter, making Bruce turn into the Hulk to save him, even though he doesn’t know he’s also Spider-Man.
Spider-Man helps to stop and capture the Leader, and he also sees that the Hulk has a good side inside him. He realizes that the Hulk is not just a beast like most people think. The comic may be printed on toilet paper, but it’s a pretty cool story that gives a crisp overview of both heroes.
Toilet paper is a weird choice, even for the crazy world of fandom, and the idea didn’t work out.
Marvel’s deal with Oh Dawn! It resulted in one of its most bizarre comic stunts ever, which has become a myth, with ‘pages’ sometimes shared online with fans who had found the adventure.
Marvel’s Infinity Comics has given fans more stories with popular characters and also let some obscure characters with few appearances get some attention.
The Marvel’s Voices Infinity has shown off some fantastic heroes, while comics like Marvel Meow, It’s Jeff!, and Alligator Loki have let the company’s animal stars have some fun.
But, Spider-Man & Hulk: Toilet Paper Infinity Comic might be the most surprising comic on the subscription service.
