Recent research by the car performance brand Redex has revealed that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is by far the most popular game in the entire Mario Kart Franchise.
Back when the original Mario Kart was released for the Nintendo Wii U in 2014, critics showered the game with positive reviews, praising its new additions, tracks, graphics, gameplay, and orchestrated soundtrack. The game was so successful that it’s the best-selling game on Wii U, with almost 8 million copies sold worldwide.
If that wasn’t enough, the game was re-released as an enhanced version for the Nintendo Switch, titled Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Once again the game received critical acclaim upon release, and as of writing this article, it has worldwide sales of 28 million copies under its belt, making it the best-selling video game for the Nintendo Switch as well.
According to Redex, there is still a lot of buzz surrounding the Mario Kart franchise, and the study was conducted to understand what aspects of Mario Kart do players love the most.
For this, 2000 players were recruited and were asked to choose their favorite Mario Kart characters, racecourses, and so on. Along with that, they also gathered data on the number of searches made for each Mario Kart title, concluding that the game most-searched-for is also the most popular one.

As we’ve discussed so far, Mario Kart 8 takes a considerable lead with over 30,000 searches. What’s interesting to note here is the fact that Mario Kart 64 is still searched quite a bit on Google, despite the game being over 20 years old at this point which is probably because of the popularity of the Nintendo 64 Emulation.
Other interesting facts about the series were also revealed, such as how Peach is just as popular as the game’s titular character, Mario, and Rainbow road being the most-searched race track from the game.
That said, it’s certainly a delight to see so much popularity for Mario Kart, and while these results may include a bit of favoritism, these numbers are a testament to just how fantastic the Mario Kart Franchise is.
