Chucky Is The New Bully In Town, Reveals Latest Show Video

It’s that time of the year again – to be scared of every doll you see. Next month, SYFY and USA Network are bringing back the killer doll, Chucky, with a brand-new, coming-of-age story.

On September 14, USA Network released the first look of Chucky, coupled with an insider look of creator Mancini.

In the video, Mancini says that the show will make fans scream, laugh, AND cry while sharing how he wanted to bring the series back to its Child’s Play roots (the 1990 movie) and involve teenagers.

In a never-seen-before style, Chucky is going to go deeper into social issues than it ever did. We’re talking about bullying, the struggles of an anxious gay teen, and a whole lot more stuff.

Replying to the question of what fans can expect from this new-age Chucky, Mancini stated,

They [teenagers] have more complicated issues that they’re dealing with like bullying. With this first season of the TV series, we use Chucky as a metaphor for bullying. And I think in a way Chucky is the perfect bully because he comes, as he always has in our franchise, in the guise of being your best friend.

The video also shows the behind-the-scenes of the actors, making Chucky look realistic and a glimpse into the harsh realities of bullying.

However, it also offers some beautiful moments between lead Jake Webber (Zackary Arthur) and his boyfriend, Devon Evans (Björgvin Arnarson).

Expectations for the Chucky series are soaring, as the teasers and the most recent – an inside look in creator Don Mancini’s mind – show a whole new world with complex characters.

This is the first time Chucky is made into a TV show. The previous renditions of the psychopath doll were all movies, ranging from horror to horror-comedy and even satire.

But this time, as a different medium that gives multiple hours to carve a great storyline, Mancini has discovered new ways to make it refreshing.

Chucky also sees some familiar, loved old faces such as Jennifer Tilly, Fiona Dourif, Alex Vincent, and Christine Elise. In addition, fan-favorite Brad Dourif is also back as the voice of the killer doll.

Mancini believes that the series will surprise fans with its rich, complex storytelling. The first eight episodes will focus on bullying, and depending on the success, Mancini hopes to create more seasons, possibly creating a Chucky-verse.

SYFY and USA Networks’ Chucky will premiere on October 12, 2021.
