Channing Tatum is back as Mike Lane for one “final tease,” as the film’s poster promises. That’s right! You have the chance of witnessing Magic Mike’s finest moves one last time in an all-new movie!
Last Dance is set after the events of the first two movies and acts as the final chapter to the Magic Mike trilogy. Here, Mike is approached by Salma Hayek Pinault’s Max to help set up a theatre production in London, thanks to his stripping and performance expertise.
While the movie follows their romance that blooms while they work together, it also gives us closure about Mike’s happily ever after. So what happens at the end of Magic Mike’s Last Dance?
Magic Mike’s Last Dance ends with Mike turning his and Max’s rain argument into a hit performance, proving to her that her play will be well-received. While Max loses some of her divorce settlement money, she chooses to continue making plays with Mike.
So once we get past that juncture where Max sees Mike as more than just a hot hunk, the film focuses a lot on how the two try to produce a whole play in London that would explore stripping in a more theatrical setting and angled at female audiences.
The main crux here is that this artistic exploration is not at all welcomed — with many folks opposing the production itself and trying to get the play shut down. In fact, it gets so bad that Max is threatened with losing her divorce settlement if she goes ahead with the play.
In between all of this, Max and Mike have been having their own creative and emotional differences. But when Max finally decides to give up on the play, Mike pleads with her to stay strong, all while they’re getting drenched in torrential rain. This argument is just the amount of emotion and drama needed to get the movie to its turning point!
Now Mike decides to make a grand gesture and pull off the play (even if it’s just for one night) without Max knowing. As you may have guessed, it works!
Not only is the play a success, but it is also so well-received that Max realizes that her financial losses mean nothing in the face of creating something so unique, beautiful, and vocal of the female experience.
There seems to be a happy ending for Mike as well, who has been quite unlucky in both his love and professional life (as you may remember from the previous movies). Max and Mike share a warm moment together declaring their love for each other and the film ends on the note of how dance can truly bring people together.
