Here are First Stills of Animated Lucifer Going Yabba Dabba Doo!

Lucifer and Chloe are going 2-D. Netflix has released first stills from Season 6’s animated episode titled “Yabba Dabba Do Me.”

It looks like once again Lucifer has opened up a door he should’ve have — quite literally, if you look closely, there’s a door prominently present in a few of the images.

And this landed both, him and the Detective, in a Looney Tunes world to fend for themselves.

The episode is brought to you by the animation team behind HBO Max’s Harley Quinn, with Jennifer Coyle acting as supervising producer.

The stills are equal parts funny and badass, as the duo take advantage of their animated perks to deliver moments that are funny, action-packed and dramatic — all that we know and love Lucifer for.

Both the trailer and photos hint that it is only Lucifer and Chloe who will feature in the animated episode. But I would love to see the others going Yabba Dabba Doo too. If that’s a surprise reveal, I don’t mind being in the blind for now.

No more specific plot details for the episode have been released.

Going animated has been a trend for many TV series/movies, given as it can be easier to produce and can take off the load from in-person filming during Covid conditions.

But for Lucifer’s executive producer Joe Henderson, this was an idea he was hoping to try out for a while.

In an interview with Collider, Henderson talks about how the episode fell into place thanks to partnering with Coyle’s animation crew.

Early conversation about the episode colored it to be in a Hanna-Barbera cartoon style and the team certainly understood the brief, working their magic and adding a little bit of Looney Tunes influence too.

I just didn’t think I’d actually get to, because it’s just such an undertaking. But it was COVID and we were looking for ways to have fewer days on set. And so the problem became the opportunity, because I secretly had been wanting to do it for years.

Henderson also promises that the episode will organically fit in with the rest of the narrative, just as Season 5’s musical did.

But let’s face it — In the world of all things Lucifer, the things that make the least sense are the most fun to explore!

Lucifer’s final season will premiere on Netflix, October 10.

About Lucifer

Lucifer is an American urban fantasy drama series created by Tom Kapinos. It is based on the DC Comics character from The Sandman, created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg. Warner Bros. Entertainment and DC Entertainment produce the series.

Originally premiered in 2016, Lucifer was picked up by Netflix when Fox canceled the show after three seasons. Lucifer is set to end with Season 6, which is rumored to air early in 2022.

The series revolves around Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), the Devil, who abandons Hell for Los Angeles, where he runs his own nightclub named ‘LUX’ and becomes a consultant to the LAPD. All the while working on his character development to be a better Devil/Angel.

The latest season featured the retirement of God, a lot of broken hearts and mending relationships, ambitious Angels, and the Devil taking it upon himself to right the wrongs of his dear ol’ dad, God.
