Jedi Hunters Disrupt Obi-Wan’s Decade-long Recluse in New Trailer

The much-anticipated official trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi is here—bringing back a fan-favorite Jedi Master and a promise of an adventure-packed series.

As rumors had previously suggested, Lucasfilm dropped the teaser on March 9, and it has a lot to unpack.

Ewan McGregor returns to the role for the first time since 2005’s Revenge of the Sith, and boy, is he the definition of “aging gracefully.”

Kenobi’s voice begins the trailer with, “The fight is done. We lost… Stay hidden.” And lo and behold, he’s looking upon a young Luke Skywalker in the distant sands of Tatooine.

The moment’s silence is interrupted quickly as the Grand Inquisitor’s voice takes over like a bad omen as Duel of the Fates plays in the back,

“The key to hunting Jedi is patience… Jedi cannot help what they are. Their compassion leaves a trail. The Jedi code is like an itch. They cannot help it.”

First introduced in Star Wars Rebels, making his live-action debut, is the Grand Inquisitor as he leads the Jedi-hunters who are on the hunt for those who escaped Emperor Palpatine’s Order 66, the Great Jedi Purge.

However, the Grand Inquisitor’s got company as Inquisitor Reva is one of the Jedi-hunters seeking the wise Jedi, hinting at a battle with Obi-Wan.

And although Hayden Christensen’s return as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader was omitted from the trailer, his presence is strongly felt. Inquisitor Reva has her own red-bladed lightsaber and serves as the secret link between Vader and Kenobi.

The teaser ends with the text, “Between darkness and defeat, hope survives.” But you know what they say, hope can be a dangerous thing.

EW Exclusive Stills:

The Disney+ series will pick up ten years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, losing his best friend Anakin to the dark side.

As the trailer also featured the Fortress Inquisitorius, an Imperial stronghold for Vader’s Jedi hunters, it shows that his decade-long isolation on Tatooine and remaining hidden from the Imperial Inquisitors was only a temporary fix, not a long-term solution.

This is also the first time the Inquisitors have made their way into live-action after the Jedi hunters played a huge role in EA’s Jedi: Fallen Order. In the game, Cal Kestis explored the insidious Fortress Inquisitorius, and the glimpses we got in the trailer promise a similar-looking location.

The fortress might just be where Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader will go up against each other in the new series.

All will be revealed when Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on Disney+ on May 25.
