Loki S2E2: The Loki-Sylvie Reunion & Sylvie’s Mysterious Device Explained

Loki season 2, episode 2 presents new challenges for the God of Mischief and features an interesting reunion.

Loki season 2 sees the titular God trying all sorts of ways to present the destruction of the TVA and the Sacred Timeline to save the world from Kang the Conqueror.

In the latest episode, Loki and his friend, Agent Mobius, get hold of Hunter X-5, who has gone against General Dox’s orders to become a celebrity on the Sacred Timeline. They grill X-5 to find out the whereabouts of Loki’s female variant, Sylvie, whom X-5 had spotted on a branched timeline.

At the end of Loki season 2, episode 2, Sylvie refuses to join Loki and Agent Mobius in their mission to save the TVA. However, it is revealed that she has a crucial device with extraordinary powers, which might be crucial in the upcoming episodes.

1. What is in Sylvie’s hands at the end of Loki S2E2?

The last scene of episode 2 has Sylvie sitting on the hood of her car outside MCD while holding something in her hand. It is revealed that Sylvie is holding the TempPad belonging to He Who Remains. It is a much-advanced version of the TVA’s standard versions and is likely to be much more powerful than usual versions.

Sylvie refuses to join Loki and returns to her branched timeline. But this significant moment tells us she kept the TempPad from the season 1 ending, which she had used to send Loki back in time.

We already know that Sylvie will have a bigger role in Loki season 2. Although she wants to continue working at McDonalds, she will definitely find herself back in the TVA in the upcoming episodes. She will have He Who Remains’ TempPad to help her when she does.

2. Why is Sylvie angry with Loki?

Sylvie is angry with Loki as he did not agree with her decision to kill He Who Remains in the season 1 finale. When Loki meets Sylvie at the end of S2E2, she doesn’t want anything to do with him as she feels betrayed.

At the end of the season 1 finale, Loki and Sylvie had to choose between killing He Who Remains and unlocking the multiverse or taking his place in the TVA and running it.

The two Loki variants had a difference in opinion, as Sylvie wanted to kill him while Loki wanted to take time and think about it. Loki was far more sensible about it and wanted to consider the consequences of this and the threat posed by the variants of Kang, a.k.a He Who Remains.

However, Sylvie wanted to kill him because of all the pain he had caused and did not agree with Loki that the existence of the TVA is necessary to keep the multiverse safe. Sylvie had her reasons, too, though.

Sylvie had always been running from the TVA and hadn’t known a life without an imminent threat on her life. She was always in danger of being removed from existence. So, killing He Who Remains was obviously a more viable choice for her.

The ongoing tension between Loki and Sylvie in season 2 is because of this rift.

3. Why did Sylvie refuse to join Loki?

Sylvie refuses to join Loki in his mission to save the TVA and stop the breaching of timelines because she is tired of running from the TVA. She has finally found a sense of normalcy in her 1982 Oklahoma timeline, where she works at an MCD outlet and does not want to give up the peace in her life.

Sylvie has always been in danger in her life and spent most of her life running and being afraid of the TVA. Now that she has finally found the freedom that she has always wanted, she does not want to give that up.

However, Sylvie will surely have more to do in this season. Though she does not want to give up her freedom, the end of the episode indicates that she still holds something from the past. This indicates that she might change her mind soon.

Sylvie knows that she owes it to Loki for betraying him at the end of season 1 and also has the responsibility of protecting the multiverse. Moreover, she has Kang’s TempPad with her, which makes it crucial for her to be a part of this mission.

So, although Sylvie has backed out of it for now, she will be back in the TVA very soon.
