Eimei Academy’s team rolls out in episode 8 of Liar, Liar, titled “Good Night.”

Hiroto receives a challenge from the third fake, Saionji, and is forced to accept it. The battle will take place alongside ASTRAL, so he goes about the competition as usual while keeping an eye out for her. Eimei Academy’s five-man team is a complete mess and has no coordination.

Although they are all intelligent individually, they struggle to make decisions together and work alone. Hiroto and Shinji try to act logically and make decisions after thinking, but Nanase moves out of emotion.

2. Episode 9 Speculation

Nanase has stormed off from the team after being confronted by Shinji and Hiroto. She had made a rash decision by attacking them out of nowhere but probably realized something no one else did. She likely has a unique ability to read a person’s character or notice a lie.

Hiroto trusts her judgment and agrees that fighting them was the right decision, but he still wants a solid reason. Moreover, the fake Saionji is yet to make a move on Hiroto. Once she enters the battle, the tides will turn.

3. Recap of Episode 8

The Empress, Saionji, sends a message to Hiroto, and he watches it along with Sarasa. She says that the winner of the game would get to be the true Saionji Sarasa and also get control of the school account. She threatens to fake rumors if they avoid the challenge and forces them to accept.

Hiroto runs to Kaguya and gets on his knees to beg her for help. He has to beat Saionji in ASTRAL and still retain his star. A new player voting system also decides their movement limits in the second round.

Himeji reveals a new secret ability she acquired called Replacement which allows her to players to swap one ability. The following day, Eimei Academy initializes ASTRAL, and the five-man squad prepares to make their first move.

Noa tests everybody’s movement values to find the best path to each base. Shinji suggests moving East to find the most bases, and Hiroto agrees. The first day ends and Ouka Academy holds the most bases captured.

All the teams gather in the hotel for dinner at night. Some other leaders approach Eimei Academy’s table, but Hiroto ignores them. Himeji gives them a run-down of their main threats, especially a woman nicknamed Demon Maiden.

Hiroto wakes up in the middle of the night and goes to take a quick bath. She runs into one of the other competitors, a small girl playing around at the arcade. He takes her back to her room and tucks her in bed. The next day, the competition continues, and they get an alliance request from a rival team, Ibara Academy.

Before they can respond, Nanase starts attacking them without explaining. Hiroto and Shinji join her in the attack, and they eventually outpower them. After the battle, they try to confront her and find out why she started fighting for no reason.

Liar Liar is a psychological light novel series written by  Haruki Kuou and illustrated by  Yukina Funa. The series is set for an anime adaptation.

The story takes us to Academy Island where a student’s rank is determined by the number of stars he/she can collect in a special type of duel called ‘game.’

Sarasa Saionji was the absolute champion of this game with 7 stars, till one day a transfer student named Hiroto Shinohara dethrones her on the very first day.
