It was a powerful chapter that took the root of deus ex machina to help Shinomiya survive in her battle against #15. She is now seeing the ghost of her mother.

The reasons for this are unexplained. It is attributed to the memory of the suit about its previous user, but still this “ghost” thing seems to have come out of nowhere. Yet, the chapter was quite enjoyable.

Shinomiya gets surrounded by #15. The officials at the headquarters get worried that she will die. Shinomiya dodges #15’s attack, but suddenly, #15 attacks her at point blank.

Kurusu gets worried as Shinomiya got injured in multiple parts and have fractured quite some bones. Her shield has also shattered. Keiji decided to reduce the security at the headquarter and send backup.

Shinomiya tells them not to, as she is about to catch up. Keiji is shocked when he realizes that Shinomiya is seeing Hikari (her mother) ‘s ghost.

We get a flashback of Shinomiya and Gen talking, where Gen tells her that sometimes, one can see the ghost of the previous user. The reason for these sightings is unknown.

However, it is believed that it is the memory of the suit that causes these visuals. Shinomiya always tried to catch up to her mother but never succeeded.

This time, she is determined to catch up to her. She manages to get a scratch on #15. After that, she dodges a heavy blow and gets ready to release an attack, thinking that right now is the time to surpass her mother.

Kaiju No. 8 or Monster #8 is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto. It has been serialized for free on Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ from July 2020.

In Japan, creatures are known as kaiju frequently attack the nation with the Japanese Defense Force in charge of dealing with and killing them.

Childhood friends Kafka Hibino and Mina Ashiro vow to become members of the Defense Force after a kaiju destroys their home. Mina becomes a famous commander of the Force while Kafka fails the exam multiple times and becomes a monster sweeper, those in charge of cleaning up a monster’s dead body.

One day a small talking kaiju enters his body through his mouth and he can now turn into a Kaiju himself. This is dubbed “Kaiju No. 8” by the Defense Force.
