It was quite a let-down for chapter 272 of Kaguya-sama: Love is War. Recently, it seems that Aka has lost all motivation to make the series’ conclusion as excellent as the rest of it.
It was a very straightforward (and therefore extremely unfavorable) portrayal of Mamagane. This chapter confirmed what we already knew about Kei from some of her introductory chapters—namely, that despite being in her rebellious stage, she truly cares about her family, particularly Miyuki.
The entire chapter seemed predictable, unoriginal, and bland, three of the most distasteful criticisms I could level against much of the manga. However, the conclusion felt disappointing. It comes out as a tad abrupt and anticlimactic.

Just like chapter 272, the next one will also be a final chapter for another character. With the series coming to an end, this is what is to be expected now. It can be Kobachi Osaragi or Maki Shijo; who knows? We can only make assumptions at the moment.
The end of the chapter also stated, “Her rebellious phase… will continue on for just a bit longer,” which could perhaps mean a spin-off series featuring Kei as the main character. Maybe or maybe not.

5. Chapter 272 Recap
The chapter begins with Miyuki being overprotective of his sister and getting yelled at for the same by Kei. She thinks he treats her like a kid.
At Kei’s home, Papagane recalls Miyuki’s cooking and how he misses it when Kei serves him rice and a bunch of leftover dishes from the deli for dinner. He further clarifies that the issue wasn’t the cooking. It was the loneliness he felt after Miyuki left. He wished the three could enjoy a meal together at the table.
Kei, being in her rebellious phase, that is, adolescence gets irritated at him being so “needy.” Just then, she receives a text from her mother, asking whether she would like to get dinner on Sunday.
Fast-forward to Sunday, and the two are sitting in front of each other in the restaurant. Kei’s mom asks her how things are going and other general concerns. Mamagane continues to talk about how humans are empathetic and about being dependent on oneself for happiness in her way – logic-driven.
She asks Kei to come to Shanghai with her, so she can secure an education that surpasses Shuuchin with the connections she has built over there. She again puts logic, saying that it is best for everyone.
She continues talking about how things would be better and other stuff, but Kei cuts her in between by saying she won’t be coming.
She undoubtedly loved her children, but she made far too rational judgments and did not consider the potential emotional fallout from her actions. The conversation revealed that she still thought what she did was best (and by logic and how things turned out, her leaving was the first drive to make Miyuki work harder than he was).
Still, at the same time, she demonstrated that she completely misunderstood what was on their minds and how damaging her actions could have been to both of her children, such as how can a kid not be traumatized by the knowledge that his mom left him?
Kei leaves by saying they will have another meal together sometime, perhaps when she’s an adult.
On her way home, she gets a call from Miyuki, who asks her if everything is alright with her and their mom because apparently, Mamagane posted emo stories on her Instagram. She yells at him again for treating her like a kid and cuts the call.

Kaguya-sama: Love Is War is a Japanese seinen manga series written and illustrated by Aka Akasaka. It began serialization in Shueisha’s Miracle Jump in May 2015 and was transferred to Weekly Young Jump in March 2016.
Student council president Miyuki Shirogane and vice-president Kaguya Shinomiya appear to be the perfect couple. Still, both are too proud to confess their love and scheme to make the other confess their love first.
