Although it initially seemed like Sukuna had the upper hand, the tide is turning with the arrival of Yuji, Maki, and Team Geto. But the plot thickens even further as Gege unveils a massive upgrade for our protagonist in chapter 256.
When Yuji senses danger, he strengthens himself significantly, after witnessing the powerful black flash that Sukuna unleashes against Larue. The sorcerers are also gaining momentum, which helps them counter Sukuna’s attacks.
Is Itadori Yuji the Trump Card Against Sukuna?
If Sukuna repeatedly hits his opponents with Black Flash, we know he can replenish his Reverse Cursed Technique. This would mean an inevitable defeat for the Jujutsu sorcerers fighting for their lives. All the sorcerers were in grave danger against the King of Curses.
However, Yuji showed great courage during the calamity and managed to hit Sukuna several times. In chapter 256, Sukuna delivered four black flashes and started regaining his old form. Everyone noticed this and was alarmed.
It’s worth noting that only Yuji’s punches can severely damage Sukuna’s cursed energy output and weaken his control over Megumi’s body. As Gojo is already out of the game, Yuji is now considered the ultimate trump card against this monster from the Heian era.

Did Yuji Get any New Power after the Awakening?
There is no confirmation yet about the powers Yuji gained from his awakening. However, other characters have previously stated some theories and speculations.
Chapter 256 of Jujutsu Kaisen revealed that Yuji was on track to surpass Gojo Satoru in the number of Black Flashes created. This suggests that Yuji’s awakening is imminent and he might be able to use Black Flash at will, a feat no one has achieved.
Yuji also showcased his proficiency in the Blood Manipulation technique, which he learned from his elder brother Choso. Although Choso admitted that Yuji hadn’t mastered the technique, he would probably become a skilled practitioner after awakening.
In episode 12, Gojo hints to Yuji that he will eventually learn Sukuna’s cursed technique. This is critical information for Yuji’s awakening as it implies that he might gain access to Sukuna’s powerful techniques, including cleave, dismantle, and fire techniques.
In addition, Yuji may develop his domain expansion in the series. It would be a momentous occasion if the series’ main character were to perform one of the pinnacles of Jujutsu.
