Days before rolling out John Wick: Chapter 4 in theaters worldwide, the latest instalment of the famous film series got its first screening in the USA yesterday. And no, for those of you who are frantically checking your booking sites, it wasn’t for the entire continent.
Franchise director Chad Stahelski & star Keanu Reeves led a surprise screening of the upcoming film at the SXSW Festival in Austin, and only a few select fans were lucky enough to get a chance to enjoy this treat.
After the London and Berlin premiere, great reviews for the fourth film started pouring in, and the marketing team for the 2024 film kicked it up a notch for the US.
Select fans were sent a code to decrypt and find the location of the screening. Many vandalized posters and megaphone carriers were chanting the name of Baba Yaga, who we know is the nickname for the titular character. On the screening day, just before the show started, a man dressed in all black stood outside for three hours, giving ten lucky fans a chance to see the film first.
Those who were late and missed out on the screening got a commemorative coin. Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves also surprised fans with a rare appearance, and I’m mad I missed it too!
They know whether John Wick took down the High table or not, but you’ll have to wait till March 24, 2023, to find out what awaits Keanu Reeves’ character in the franchise’s latest instalment.
