After his iconic role in Star Wars, John Boyega returns in Naked Singularity. The film’s newly released trailer sets the stage for Boyega’s Casi to take the law into his own hands, along with other plot details.

Boyega will be playing Casi, a young New York City public defender who holds the law in utmost respect. Slowly, however, he sees that the very system that is supposed to be the foundation is justice, is anything but. With his faith in the law cracking, Cari is tempted into being part of a high stakes heist that may just be the reckoning the justice system needs.
Comments on the movie trailer show Boyega’s fans excited to see him back on the big screen — his first movie after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. In 2020, he gained critical acclaim for his acting in the episode Red, White, and Blue of the anthological series Small Axe.
Like Small Axe, Naked Singularity too is a smaller production than Boyega’s Star Wars. He expressed that albeit small, these roles in fact push him into building more muscle as an actor, as opposed to staying in a character that could have unchanged dynamics through the course of the franchise’s arc. Being in a big franchise, it’s kind of like [a] luxury jail sometimes for an actor when you want to do something else. Because remember, in a franchise you’re working on one character for many years, which can starve your other muscles.

Olivia Cooke comes in as Lea, Casi’s former client who recruits him into the heist. Casi’s fellow comrade in law will be played by Bill Skarsgard (known for Pennywise in It). Ed Skrein will be featured as an antagonist in the heist’s play.
This will be Chase Palmer’s debut as a director. He, along with co-writer David Matthews have adopted the plot based off of Sergio De La Pava’s novel of the same name.
Naked Singularity will have a limited theatrical release on August 3, after which it will be available via Video On Demand on August 13
