Jay Leno Stable After Suffering Serious Burns in Gasoline Fire

Renowned late-night icon and comedian, Jay Leno, suffers serious injuries due to a gasoline fire in a Los Angeles garage on Sunday but confirms he is okay now.

Leno gained popularity while working on NBC’s The Tonight Show, which he hosted for 20 years. After his departure, Conan O’Brien took over as host, but ratings suffered drastically. Thus, Leno returned to the show.

He hosted his final season of The Tonight Show in 2014 after which he departed to host his own show, Jay Leno’s Garage. In the titular reality show, Leno reviews his own and other guests’ collections of vintage cars and bikes.

The 72-year-old was scheduled to take part in a financial conference in Las Vegas. However, he suffered serious burns in a gasoline fire that broke out in Leno’s garage in Los Angeles. The comedian suffered serious burns on his face and was immediately taken to Grossman Burn Center.

As of writing this article, Leno has canceled all appointments for the rest of the week and remains in care of the Grossman Burn Center. In his statement to Variety, he confirms that he is now better and recovering well.

“I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I am ok. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet.”

Apart from his illustrious career as a host and comedian, Leno is known for his specialty in automobiles. His collection includes 180 vintage cars and 160 motorcycles, much of which he’s spoken about in Jay Leno’s Garage. His vintage car collection includes a 1994 McLaren F1 worth $12 million and a 1934 Duesenberg Walker Coupe worth $20 million.

Though he suffered serious burns in his garage fire, it is unlikely that the unfortunate accident will hamper his love for automobiles. This is not the first accident Leno has met due to his love for cars. In 2016, Leno suffered a car accident at California’s Irwindale Speedway while test-driving a drag-racing car.

Hopefully, Jay Leno will recover from his injuries pretty soon and will be back at Jay Leno’s Garage talking about his impressive automobile collection.
