A New Harley Quinn Show is Not in the Making, Says James Gunn

James Gunn has addressed rumors surrounding a possible Margot Robbie-led Harley Quinn show, which was reportedly one of the unannounced DC Universe projects.

Gunn and Peter Safran, co-CEO of DC Studios, announced the first projects for the new DC Universe slate back in January. During the announcement, Gunn mentioned that there were several projects at various stages of development that were not included in the slate.

This prompted speculation about what those projects might be, with recent rumors suggesting that a Harley Quinn series starring Robbie was among them. However, Gunn has now commented on the speculation.

Gunn took to Twitter to swiftly dispel rumors about a Margot Robbie-led Harley Quinn series being in the works at DC.

According to the rumor, DC was developing a prequel series titled “Harleen” that would center around Robbie’s Harley Quinn and explore how her failed attempt to save the Joker caused her to go insane.

The rumor also suggested that the series would feature Harvey Dent/Two-Face and would be separate from the continuity of The Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey. However, Gunn’s unambiguous response on Twitter has essentially debunked the rumor, leaving little possibility of it coming to fruition.

Given her standout performance in The Suicide Squad, it’s highly probable that Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn in the upcoming DC Universe. Robbie has previously expressed her fondness for playing the character, and her portrayal of Harley Quinn was one of the few bright spots in the previous iteration of the DCEU.

With Gunn having witnessed Robbie’s impressive acting skills firsthand, it’s likely that he would want to include her in his version of the DC Universe.

Robbie could potentially return as Harley Quinn in various ways. One possibility is that she could have a role in the upcoming HBO Max series Waller, which is part of the DC Universe. Although Robbie has only appeared as Harley Quinn in DC movies, the character’s rebellious personality would fit well in the spinoff series, which stars Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

Some members of Gunn’s Peacemaker series are also set to join the project. Another exciting prospect is for Robbie to explore the consequences of defying Waller in The Suicide Squad.

Robbie’s return as Harley Quinn in a solo project is another possibility that has been speculated. In the past, Robbie has expressed interest in bringing Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy together in a live-action film and exploring their romantic relationship.

This pairing has a large fan following in both the comics and the animated series Harley Quinn, which saw Gunn make a guest appearance. The duo would make for an exciting film in the new DC Universe, given the popularity of both characters. It could also generate a significant amount of interest in the franchise.
