Oshi no Ko manga has been running its final lap. Fans and otakus worldwide are gripping their teeth in excitement to see where the journey to stardom takes Ruby and Aqua. But amongst all this, the manga takes a dark turn.
In Chapter 158, we see Ruby get stabbed by an assailant as she opens the door. The panels made all the fans go crazy, and the twists don’t end just yet. It seems that things are not as black and white as the manga panels make it out to be. Warning: spoilers ahead!
1. What happened in Chapter 158?
Ruby’s idol career with B-Komachi takes off on the Christmas Day final performance in Miyazaki. Throughout the chapter, Ruby is dazzling on the stage, and we can see her shine as an idol.
Nino, meanwhile, is standing silently and watching her performance in the audience. Nino is someone with fanatic devotion towards Hoshino Ai. She believes that Ai’s death was what made her brilliance eternal and unsurpassable.
Seeing Ai’s daughter shine brighter than her on stage makes something within her snap. She’s filled with loathing and despair as she doesn’t understand how to react. The image of Ai, the goddess of her heart, the object of her devotion, is slowly being shattered.
Nino makes a decision to “take care” of Ruby so that Ai will be the ‘best’ forever. Nino takes it upon herself and sets off her plan. We can see the triumphant Ruby heading to answer the door, and as she opens the door, Nino stabs her in the abdomen, just like Ai was stabbed. The Chapter ends.
2. What is the truth behind the stabbing of Ruby?
Oshi no Ko is known for its shocking, world-upending twists. We see them across the story, Akasaka’s work is not as simple as it seems. After seeing Ruby get stabbed, the amateur sleuths have launched themselves into wild theories.
Yet, the truth is wilder than we all could imagine. We cannot believe our eyes after all. The person who got stabbed is not Ruby at all! After giving fans a shock and PTSD, reminding us of the death of AI.
The last panels of the seemingly light-hearted and happy chapter left us reeling. Akane is seen at the beginning of Chapter 158, leading fans to think she has a hand in the stabbing.
Contrary to popular opinion, it is not Akane that is the culprit but the victim of the stabbing. From the leaks of Chapter 159, we understand that it is Akane who dresses up like Ruby in anticipation of something like this happening. Don’t shed tears for our brave heroine just yet!
Ruby is not the one that gets stabbed, Akane dresses up as Ruby in order to protect her from any attacks. She is also not harmed by the knife as she has a protective vest on and is safe and unharmed.
This was all so that Nino could be caught ‘red-handed’ and in the act. It is likely that our popular idol, Ruby has no idea of the happenings at her house. Akane’s actions let us believe that there is a mastermind behind this crazy plan.
Quite likely, Aqua is the one who has planned ahead, and since he had heavy regrets over his helplessness when Ai got stabbed, he didn’t want his sister to be at risk any longer. So, he schemed to get rid of the wild card that is Nino.
We will be able to know the whole truth when Chapter 159 drops on September 4th. Until then, we can only speculate.
