The story follows Usato, Suzune, and Kazuki as all three get isekai’ed into a fantasy world to save a kingdom from destruction. As the king gives his obligatory introduction speech, poor Usato figures out that he was not the fated hero.
But in the same old isekai trope, Usato discovered his rare healing ability, and things turned around for good. Soon enough, he is whisked away by a waifu on his adventure.
Kurokata launched the light novel on the user-generated novel website Shōsetsuka ni Narō in 2014. How Not to Use Healing Magic received its 12th novel volume on March 25, 2020; Kadokawa also adapted it into manga.
The tale of Usato and his healing magic truly shows what authors can do to make something as mundane as healing interesting. Its “unique” premise reminds me of a particular 2021 anime about healing as well.
