Willow Season 2 Release Date, Speculation, Cast, Plot, and more

The first season of the Disney Plus fantasy series “Willow” has now wrapped up, with all eight episodes available to watch on the streamer.

The series stars Warwick Davis, back as his character from the 1988 fantasy film of the same name, and follows Willow as he joins a group of unlikely heroes on a world-saving quest.

The series received a positive reception from viewers who are waiting for some news on whether there will be a second season or not.

Let’s dive into details and know more about Willow Season 2.

Will there be a Season 2 of Willow?

Disney has not officially confirmed a second season for Willow as of now. The series creator Jonathan Kasdan expressed his willingness for a hopeful second season and to re-introduce Val Kilmer as Madmartigan.

He said that once they knew he wouldn’t be able to take part due to the COVID restrictions, the team decided they would “not change the story we were telling” with his character. Instead, they would

extend it in such a way so that the mystery of his whereabouts could remain throughout the season and perhaps lead to further destinations.

Asked whether the first season left things open for these “further destinations” to be explored in a season 2, Kasdan said:

One hundred percent. The intention was that there’s always a place for [Kilmer] in this world.

And the moment it’s possible, we’d love to get him on the screen back into that character because he is such a huge, huge part of the DNA of what all of us love about the original movie, he brought to it something so fresh to the genre.

Meanwhile, Tony Revolori revealed that his character Graydon has secrets that are still yet to be unveiled, which could happen in a second season.

On being asked whether there will be a second season, Revolori said:

We hope so. I would love to do it and I would love to continue the story and Graydon’s journey, as well as just see the band of characters continue. I love this cast so much that I’d be happy to do anything with them.

Even the show itself hinted at not one but two follow-ups. In a post-credit scene, the storybook that has been used as a framing aesthetic for the credits was closed and seen being replaced on a bookshelf.

On its spine was written “Volume I” and it was placed next to two subsequent volumes, implying that there will be three seasons.

What is the release date for Willow Season 2?

Since it hasn’t been confirmed by Disney or Lucasfilm yet, it’s hard to say the exact date of release for the second season.

However, the extensive usage of effects and consideration of various other significant aspects indicate that it would take at least a year to turn around a full second season.

Therefore, the earliest date we can predict for a Willow Season 2 would be mid to late 2024.

Willow Season 2 Cast Details

If Willow were to return for a second season, we imagine we’d see the major cast from Season 1 return.

There’s a high chance we could see Val Kilmer re-appear as the iconic Madmartigan after the actor was unable to appear in the first season. Both he and Jonathan Kasdan have expressed their desire for a possible collaboration.

Some of the show’s supporting characters including Christian Slater’s Allagash could also reappear in Season 2.

The central cast for the first season who could return in Season 2 is as follows:

  • Warwick Davis as Willow Ufgood,
  • Ellie Bamber as Elora Danan
  • Ruby Cruz as Kit Tanthalos
  • Erin Kellyman as Jade Claymore
  • Tony Revolori as Graydon Hastur
  • Amar Chadha-Patel as Thraxus Boorman

What is the Plot for Willow Season 2?

Although the makers have not disclosed any plot details for Season 2, fans have surely started speculating and are already excited.

The official confirmation is expected to happen soon. On the other hand, if we were to concentrate on the plot of Season 1, then we would see that it is an adventurous series with a hint of fantasy.

It is based on the popular television show Lucasfilm, which has gained a lot of popularity over the years. It is a series that develops the plotline after the events from the fantasy movie Willow, which was released back in the 1980s that set the stage for the events in the series.

Furthermore, a great deal of attention is given in the story of season one to Willow, who has embarked on a dangerous adventure with his friends, along with other characters from the show.

Since Season 1 ended with a minor skirmish, it feels like Willow is setting up an all-out war should Season 2 get green-lit.
