Mission Impossible 7: Is There a Post-Credits Scene to Tease Part 2?

Ethan Hunt and his team are back for another thrilling adventure in Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1, the seventh installment in the action franchise.

The film reunites Cruise with familiar faces such as Ilsa Faust, Benji Dunn, and others, and is the first part of a two-movie arc that continues the story in Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 2. With director Christopher McQuarrie having already completed filming the sequel, audiences may be curious about how Part 1 sets up the next installment.

Is there a post-credits scene in Dead Reckoning Part 1?
Mission Impossible 7

The main plot of Mission Impossible 7 follows Ethan Hunt and the IMF as they deal with a new AI-driven threat, a mysterious ally named Grace, and a long-awaited reunion with Kittridge. The film also drops hints about the direction of the story for Dead Reckoning Part 2 throughout its runtime.

However, some viewers may wonder if the film also has a post-credits scene to tease the sequel, as it has become a common practice in Hollywood to use such scenes to build anticipation for the next installment.

Mission Impossible 7 does not have a post-credits scene. It was also confirmed before the release of the film by Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie. Instead of using an extra scene to tease Dead Reckoning Part 2, the film wraps up the current story and sets up the sequel with a proper ending.

However, this does not mean that viewers should rush out of the theater as soon as the credits begin. It is always a good idea to stay and appreciate the names of the people who worked hard to make the movie.

A post-credits scene for Mission Impossible 7 would have been superfluous for the sequel. The title itself implies that there is more to come, and the movie’s ending provides enough setup for Dead Reckoning Part 2.

McQuarrie could have easily added a post-credits scene to Mission Impossible 7 since the sequel’s filming is almost done. However, the movie benefits from focusing on its main story and delivering a satisfying conclusion than teasing scenes from the next film. Dead Reckoning Part 1’s Rotten Tomatoes score reflects this.

A post-credits scene for Mission Impossible 7 would have also gone against the franchise convention. None of the previous Mission Impossible movies have ever had a post-credits scene.

The closest the franchise has done was the hint of the Syndicate’s emergence at the end of Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol, which set up the main antagonist of Mission Impossible Rogue Nation. By avoiding a post-credits scene for Dead Reckoning Part 1, the franchise maintains this convention and resists the Hollywood trend.
