2022 was an excellent year for franchises on the small screen, from HOB’s Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, to Amazon Studios’ Lord of the Rings series, The Rings of Power. But one spinoff that’s yet to be magicked into existence is one of the world’s biggest and most successful IPs: Harry Potter.

There’s no denying a market for it-fans calling for a small-screen adaption of J.K. Rowling’s book-selling book series. While some exciting developments of late, including the recent news that the studio is close to securing a deal with HBO.

So, is it happening?

Attention, Potterheads! A return to Hogwarts could be in our future. A source with knowledge of the matter says that Warner Bros. Discovery is in talks for a Harry Potter series. The TV series would be a Max Originals deal.

Bloomberg first reported news of the potential show on April 3. The report came months after Warner Bros. Television Group CEO Channing Dungey told Variety that a “tremendous amount of ambition” existed for a Harry Potter TV series.

J.K. Rowling‘s Harry Potter books have previously been adapted for the big screen, with Daniel Radcliffe playing the title character in all eight films. The hit franchise also starred Emma Watson as Hermione Granger and Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley.

 Before the Wizarding World of Harry Potter possibly heads to the small screen, everything about the potential Harry Potter series is reported.

What is the release date of the Harry Potter series?

A deal for the series has yet to be reached, so fans must wait for a release date. If the show is officially announced, fans can accept a release date by late 2025.

Where to watch the Harry Potter series?

The Harry Potter series would be a Max Original deal. According to Bloomberg, the company hopes the Harry Potter series “can be one cornerstone of a new streaming strategy.” CNBC reported in December 2022 that Warner Bros. Discovery planned on merging its HBO Max and Discovery+ streaming services in the spring.

J.K. Rowling, who penned the Harry Potter books, will reportedly be involved in the TV series. However, individuals said the author will “not run the show daily or serve as its primary creator.”

The cast for the series has yet to be confirmed, and only time will tell whether the original actors will have any roles to play.
