The Boys: Annie Discovers the Dangers of Compound V24

Episode 7 of The Boys had revelations that completely flipped the story upside down. One of them was about Compound V24. If you remember, in Episode 1, Stan Edgar mentioned that the serum is undergoing some modifications to eliminate all its side effects.

However, in Episode 7, Annie finds out something shocking while trying to retrieve Compound V (The permanent one) for Kimiko. Here’s what she saw:

Compound V24 usage can cause multiple tumors in the brain, melt it and result in death. This is after three to four doses of the serum.

Kimiko decided that she wanted to get her powers back to protect herself and her family (Frenchie) and convinced Annie, formerly Starlight, to break into Vought and get Compound V for her.

When Annie enters the lab or the room where the serums are stored, she looks at some papers with the side effects of Compound V24 written on them. While there was a lot of jargon, two precise specifics were highlighted.

The serum causes multiple tumors in the brain at a rapid rate and essentially turns your brain into a gooey liquid, which would ultimately cause a person’s death.  As soon as she finds this out, she calls Billy Butcher to ask him how many shots he and Hughie have taken.

She further tells him what would happen if they took three to four doses and inquires again about the number of doses they’ve injected themselves with. Butcher fakes his nonchalance and says they’ve only taken a couple, but that isn’t true.

Butcher has taken three to four, and Hughie has taken three himself. Could this mean that the two will die? Billy and Hughie are the main characters of the show, amongst others such as Annie, Marvin, and more. So, killing them off is impossible.

Either they’ll be saved somehow in the next episode, or this would be the cliffhanger on which the show ends. The Boys has been renewed for Season 4, which means these arcs are far from over. The characters’ stories still need closure which isn’t possible in the one remaining episode of Season 3.

So, the two characters will be alive for the next season. We just have to see what route the creator takes with them. Will he turn them into permanent supes, who will become evil, or will they be cured? I guess we have to wait a long, long time for the answers. Until then, let’s just wait for the finale of Season 3.

About The Boys

The Boys is an American satirical superhero streaming television series developed by Eric Kripke for Prime Video. Based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, which was originally published by DC Comics under their Wildstorm imprint before moving to Dynamite Entertainment, it follows the eponymous team of vigilantes as they combat superpowered individuals who abuse their abilities.

The show is a satirical take on the superhero genre and showcases a world where superheroes are corporatized and controlled by companies. What happens when these superheroes step out of line and rub some boys the wrong way, is the story.
