Intel’s low-powered Alder Lake N50 spotted on Geekbench ahead of launch

Many hardware leakers have leaked Intel’s processor specifications for the upcoming 14th Generation Raptor Lake-S Refresh and 15th Generation Alder Lake-S.

Recently, a performance test was spotted on Geekbench featuring the low-power Intel N50 processor based on Alder Lake-N architecture. This processor is the lowest-tier Alder Lake-N-based CPU with a mediocre clock frequency of 997 MHz that can be boosted to 3391 MHz.

The Alder Lake-N CPUs are meant for the entry-level segment focusing on low-power embedded computing. The maximum core count in this series is 8. All the cores have been designed with Efficient/Atom Architecture built on the 10nm SuperFin process at Intel, which is named Intel 7.

The Intel N50 happens to be the lowest processor in the range. It is one of the slowest Intel processors this year. The N50 processor will have no hyperthreading feature on the two cores.

The CPU features one L1 Instruction Cache of 64 KB, one L1 Data Cache of 32KB, one L2 cache of 2MB and one L3 cache of 6 MB. The TDP for the processor is limited to a very low 6W.

The Technologies supported on the Intel N50 Alder Lake-N

The N50 has built-in Intel UHD Graphics based on Tiger Lake-H series GPU which is limited to 16 Execution Units. The best-built Alder Lake-N comes with 32 Execution Units in comparison.

Due to single-channel memory, low clock speeds and low shader count, the gaming performance of the iGPU is minimal. The low power consumption means that it is suited for fan-less cooling.

The good news is that this processor supports 64-bit OS. This means this processor can be used on systems with very low requirements, like some lightweight Ubuntu distros.

On Geekbench, the single-core performance of the N50 racks up 1054 points. This resembles Intel’s older 4th Gen Core mobile series with Haswell architecture or first-gen Ryzen CPUs.

However, the multi-core performance is well below expectations and similar to the Intel Core 2 series or the low-end AMD FX. Interested buyers must not forget that this processor delivers the same performance as processors from a decade ago but at a fraction of the power-consumption.
