Intel announces 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh Series along with Black Series CPU

Summary

  • After months of speculation, Intel has unveiled 5 SKUs from the 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh lineup at the CES 2024.
  • The 5 SKUs revealed are of the HX variant, i.e., they are overclockable and feature the same hybrid architecture.
  • A reputed hardware leaker has also spotted a China Exclusive Black Edition SKU that offers better performance at the same power rating.

Intel’s 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh lineup has been teased for quite a while, and after months of speculation, its specifications have been revealed at the CES 2024 event.

Intel’s 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh uses the Intel 7 Node process, consisting of Raptor Cove P-cores and Gracemont E-cores. Five HX-series overclockable SKUs and a mysterious Chinese-market exclusive “Black Edition” series have been revealed, with better performance at the same power profile as the Intel Core i5-14400.

The Core count for the Raptor Lake Refresh series has remained relatively consistent since the 13th generation for the Core i9 and the Core i5. However, the E-cores have reinforcements in the form of an L3 cache exclusively on the Core i7 models.

The best SKU revealed at the event was the Core i9 14900HX with 24 cores and 32 threads, which has a base clock for P-cores at 2.2 GHz and 1.6 GHz for E-cores. The boost frequency for the P-cores is at a whopping 5.8 GHz and 4.1 GHz for the E-cores.

It surpasses the previous generation Core i9-13900HX by 400 MHz in the boost P-core clock frequency and 200 MHz for the boost E-core clock frequency.

The mysterious black packaging containing a better-performing Intel Core i5-14400 was also spotted. Fans of the blue team will remember that these Black Edition chips are exclusively sold in China and are more potent than their globally available counterparts.

The images were leaked on Twitter by reputed Intel hardware leaker @wxnod. The Black Edition Core i5-14490F will have 10 Cores and 16 threads, precisely as the i5-14400. However, the turbo frequency is excited to 5.0 GHz instead of the 14400’s 4.7 GHz at the same 65W TDP.

All the 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh Chips support the Extreme Tuning Utility, Speed Optimiser for One-click overclocking, and Extreme Memory Profile for SO-DIMM memories. Sixty new laptop models are expected to feature these cards from big names like Acer, Alienware, Asus, Gigabyte, HP, Lenovo, MSI, and Razer, which can be expected to ship later this year.
