In/Spectre Reveals New Key Visual Ahead of Season 2 Premiere

On December 6, a second key visual was released for season 2 of the anime In/Spectre. The season will begin airing in Japan on January 8, 2023. The series is based on the supernatural-mystery novel series by Kyou Shirodaira.

The Kodansha-published novel series was first launched in 2011 and, as of December 2021, consists of five volumes, including a short story anthology.

The returning cast for this season includes Akari Kitou as Kotoko, Mamoru Miyano as Kuro, and Mayumi Sako as Rikka Sakuragawa. New cast members include Aoi Yuuki as Yuki-Onna and Makoto Furukawa as Masayuki Muroi.

The plot revolves around Kotoko and Kuro, who gain unique superhuman powers after being touched by spirits called yokai. However, their powers come at a cost, and Kotoko has to give up her eye and a leg for her powers, whereas Kuro’s personal life is in shambles.

After gaining these new powers, the two then decide to team up to deal with the obstacles they face from the spirit world.

The second season was originally set to premiere in October but was delayed. The season is being directed by Keiji Gotoh at Brains Base Studio, with Noboru Takagi as the series composer. Kentarou Matsumoto is the character designer and chief animation director, taking over from Takatoshi Honda.

The series will air on Tokyo MX, BS NTV, Animax, and d anime store. 

About In/Spectre: Kyokou Suiri

In/Spectre (Kyoko Suiri) is a novel series written by Kyo Shirodaira and illustrated by Hiro Kyohara (Vol. 1) and Chasiba Katase (Vol. 2 onwards). A manga adaptation by Katase has also been serialized since April 2015. The series was adapted into an anime on January 11, 2020, with a second season arriving in 2023.

At the age of 11, Kotoko was kidnapped by youkai who made her an intermediary between the spirits and humans but at the price of her eye and leg.

Now, whenever youkai wish for their problems to be solved, they make their way to Kotoko for consultation. She is joined by Kuro, whom she falls for and may have a mysterious power hidden inside him.
