The Indiana Jones Franchise Timeline Explained

The timeline of the Indiana Jones franchise can be explained in two ways: the release order and the chronological order. The release order refers to the order of the release of the five films in the franchise. However, some of the films which released later serves as a prequel to films which released before.

The chronological order applies to when the films are set in as per the timeline of the universe. So, films which serve as prequel come before the sequels.

The chronological order applies to the first two films in the series: Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984). Although Raiders of the Lost Ark released before The Temple of Doom, the events of the former take place after the latter.
