Mameda asks her how long she’s known Mameda is a tanuki, and Koito tells her she’s known since the start. Koito tells her that even though she’s blind, she can hear and smell very well, causing her to know. She’s surprised that no one else knows she’s a tanuki.

Koito promises she won’t tell anyone in exchange for letting her play with Mameda’s tail. Shirara wants to apologize for what happened with her family by cutting off her finger, but everyone tells her it’s not required, and they charge into her family home by choice.

Katsu tells Shirara there are talks of her becoming a full-fledged rakugo speaker soon. Mameda asks Shirara what this means, who tells her it’s a rank for a rakugo speaker, below a star performer, and above an opener. Most rakugo speakers spend ten years in that role.

Shirara tells her she became an opener within a year, secretly using her teacher’s books late the night. One day, he saw her studying hard and promoted her to an opener.

Mameda does the same, hoping Bunko will promote her too. Bunko tells her she can play around with the books, just as long as she doesn’t sleep or drool on them. Mameda ends up doing that.
