In the Dark Season 4 Episode 5 Recap
The episode begins with Murphy prepping for her trial. She’s shocked to learn that Chloe is testifying against her. Her lawyer asks her to speculate what the worst thing Chloe could say about her. Murphy tells her that she asked her to help frame her father which caused him to commit suicide.
Murphy considers calling Chloe to persuade her not to testify but her lawyer strongly advises against it as this could be seen as witness tampering. The day in court begins with the prosecution attacking her for her character, calling her ruthless and sexually manipulative. The defense reminds the jury that at this point in time, there’s no evidence against Murphy, not even a murder weapon.
Despite a strong opening statement, things aren’t looking good for Murphy after a series of character witnesses malign her image further. To make things worse, the prosecution presents CCTV footage of Murphy getting shovels from her mother’s garage. Later that evening, against her lawyer’s advice, Murphy leaves a voice message for Chloe asking her not to testify in court.
