This is It! We May Finally Have a Confirmation for the Hitman TV Series

The recent trend of hit shows developed from video games has opened a ripe market for other game-based franchises to hit up the screens. After a long wait, “Hitman” is taking the hint and possibly moving forward with the promised series. How do I know that? Well, let me tell you all about it!

As reported by ScreenRant, the United States Patent and Trademarks Office has a few new trademarks added under the “Entertainment services in the nature of a television and multimedia program” category. The three trademarks are possibly the multiple title ideas for the upcoming Hulu show, which we can confirm is definitely in development.

What are the three titles? Here we go – “Hitman: Codename 47,” “Hitman: Death Awaits,” and “Hitman: Absolution.” Another theory about the three titles is that one is the Hulu TV series, and the other two are attached to different ideas, though it is less believable since no news for other Hitman projects has surfaced.

Hitman 3

Of course, all these names sound familiar! The former of the three was the title for the first game released in 2000, while “Death Awaits” was the tagline for Hitman 3 (2021), and Hitman: Absolution is another label for the franchise’s most divisive instalment.

While Absolution might seem like an obvious choice for a series with its linear plot, the fans of the game and films prefer a more open-ended storyline for the character. Thus, while the name is still up for grabs, I think the plot of the upcoming series won’t be inspired by Hitman: Absolution.

Of the two remaining titles, “Hitman: Codename 47” feels like a series covering the titular character’s origin, which would follow Agent 47 through his first case with scattered flashbacks referring to his training or cloning.

But the expansion ideas based on this project seem to have a natural and short end, making it a good backup but not a forefront material. Thus, we are left with the best idea of the three – “Hitman: Death Awaits.”

“Hitman 3” director Mattias Engstorm did show an interest in creating a series that would have a fresh new episode detailing standalone stories revolving around a specific kill made by the Hitman. “Hitman: Death Awaits” could realize that vision, with death awaiting a new character in each episode, leaving more room to create other seasons.

After the hit-and-miss case for both film adaptations of the IO IP, here’s hoping any one of the three ideas can take root and deliver a worthwhile screen adaptation of the video game character. What do you think – which of the three will Hulu go with? Drop your answers in the comments!
