How To Watch Every Saw Movie? Easy Watch Order Guide

Whether its nonsensical misanthropy or gimmicky torture and bodies being torn apart, Saw has always lived up to the reputation of being one of the most unsettling franchises of all times. ‘Swallow it or Throw up’ is like the prime doctrine for all Saw films.

And with Saw X in early stages of development and a TV series based on Spiral: From the Book of Saw in a premature planning stage, fans continue to look forward to seeing more of Jigsaw’s carnage.

There have been nine live-action films till date. While each of them is equally bloody, the order itself in which the slaughters take place, is a bit tricky. But I have solved this confusion for you here, and now you can choose between the two ways in which one can watch all the nine movies:

1. Release Order

A little demonstration in the form of a nine-minute short film, now known as Saw 0.5, nailed the mark and made LionsGate invest in this promising franchise. But it was just a promo of what was to come, so you don’t really need to watch it. Directly start with the first feature film of 2004 here.

2. Chronological Watch Order

A significant portion of Jigsaw’s plot is set sometime before the main events of Saw. Five people wake up with chains around their necks, and must abide by the rules to survive. It was one of Kramer’s very first orchestrated death traps.

Apart from Jigsaw, there have been several instances in other Saw movies which have given some references from the past of John Kramer. Relation of Jigsaw killer with his apprentices, his disease, status of his married life, etc. are some of the examples.

5. About Saw

Saw is a splatter film franchise created by Australian filmmakers James Wan and Leigh Whannell. It consists of nine feature films and additional media. The first eight films primarily revolve around serial killer John Kramer, also called the “Jigsaw Killer” or simply “Jigsaw.”

Rather than killing his victims outright, Kramer traps them in situations that he calls “tests” or “games” to test their will to live through physical or psychological torture and believes that if they survive, they will be “rehabilitated.”

A tenth film has been announced by Lionsgate, releasing on 27 October 2023.
