How to pass the Soft-Step Trial puzzle?

The Soft-Step Trial in Baldur’s Gate 3 is the first challenge you’ll encounter during your time in the Gauntlet of Shar. This challenge requires you to make your way through a maze without being detected by the patrolling Shadows.

To pass the Soft-Step Trial puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3, players need to do the following:

Before starting the trial, check out the maze to deactivate all the traps and open all doors

Once deactivated, head to the Sacrificial Bowl to sacrifice your blood and start the Trial

Now it’s time to put your stealth skills to use. Go into hiding and move to the left of the maze to wait for the first Shadow to pass

Go into the middle hallway and hide behind the doorway on the other side

Wait for the second Shadow to pass then proceed to the next room

Use Thieves’ Tools to lockpick and open the Wrought-Iron Gate

Claim the Umbral Gem for finishing the Trial. An Umbral Transporter will appear which you can use to teleport back to the Sacrificial Bowl

It is recommended to have a character on your party with a high Stealth check. Alternatively, you can also use Invisibility spells or scrolls to make the job much easier for you.

1. Where is the Soft-Step Trial located in Baldur’s Gate 3?

The Soft-Step Trial is located northwest of the Gauntlet of Shar waypoint, behind a large door in Baldur’s Gate 3. From the waypoint, turn right and head North until you reach the first door on the West side of the corridor. Look for the writing” Her Most Vaunted Treasure“ before the door.

Once you encounter the plaque on the floor, you’ll know that you’re at the right place. Go through the Bulky Door to start the Soft-Step Trial and put your stealth skills to good use.
