How many episodes will The Handmaid’s Tale S5 have?

Three seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale depicted June’s troubled life in Gilead and her quiet but resilient insurrection. Season 4 changed its gears, for even though June found safety in Canada, she had to deal with Serena’s animosity.

Ultimately, June’s mission has always been to rescue her daughter Hannah and get her out of Gilead. But as S4 comes to a close, she hasn’t achieved that yet. So what does the finale hold for June?

The Handmaid’s Tale S5 will end with ten episodes. In the finale, June is expected to face even more trouble from Gilead in Canada. As a last resort, she may be forced to leave Toronto and move to another safer place.

Here’s everything you need to know about the episode release of Season 5 and speculations about the finale.

There are a total of ten episodes in Season 5. As much as we’d like the season to be longer, there will be no Episode 11 or additional episodes for The Handmaid’s Tale S5.

What to Expect for The Handmaid’s Tale S5 Finale

In Episode 9, the rescue mission to extract Hannah from Gilead goes sideways and June’s options are now narrowing down.

The official synopsis for The Handmaid’s Tale S5’s finale reads, “Under threat, June must find a way to keep herself and her family safe from Gilead and its violent supporters in Toronto.”

At the beginning of Season 4, Toronto was painted as a safe haven from Gilead. But it has lent itself to be anything but, housing both extremes—people who are anti-refugee and want to send the Gilead refugees back, as well as folks that support Gilead’s philosophy and hope to convert Canada to it.

This could be the danger that the synopsis is alluding to. Ironically, despite the finale being titled “Safe,” I doubt it will live up to its name.

There is a slight possibility that June finally manages to rescue Hannah and brings her to safety. However, the bigger possibility is that June may have to leave everything behind and go on the run, once again, to a place safer than Toronto.

There are plenty of ways to read into the synopsis but I do pray for a satisfying ending to S5, whichever way the show decides to go.
