One Piece Odyssey: Completion Time, Difficulty and More

One Piece Odyssey is the latest addition to the One Piece franchise. Finally, after waiting for so long since its announcement in early 2022, we get to play as Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates! The game is turn-based, and we take on opponents in area-based combat while solving puzzles along the way.

I know the burning question we all have is, “how long does it take to beat One Piece Odyssey? I have the numbers for how long it might take, but remember that this is just an estimate, and your experience may vary depending on your playstyle.

One Piece Odyssey’s main story alone will take 33 hours, while the side missions plus the story will take 44 hours. And for the completionists, expect around 55 hours to explore the game entirely.

It may be shorter than some other JRPGs, but it still packs a punch. The story is more condensed, making it easier to follow and get invested in. Keep reading to discover how the game’s difficulty level can impact your playtime.

1. How Difficult is One Piece Odyssey?

One Piece Odyssey is a pretty easy RPG with a generous difficulty curve. You level up quickly, and enemies pose little threat. The lack of difficulty cuts down on the amount of grinding players need to progress.

This is great for players who only have a little time to spend on games. However, it might leave some gamers, especially those who aren’t huge One Piece fans, feeling unsatisfied.

To make things worse, players can’t even change the game’s difficulty. As of writing, One Piece Odyssey doesn’t offer optional difficulty modes. However, that could change with a future update.

2. Is One Piece Odyssey Canon?

As a One Piece fan, you might wonder whether the game is considered canon. Well, the short answer is no.

One Piece Odyssey is not canon. While the game is based on events and characters from the manga and anime, it doesn’t contribute to the overarching story.

You will play through some canonical events via flashback, but they’ll be slightly different from the established story. So, while the game revisits important events, it does so in a non-canonical way.

3. When does One Piece Odyssey Take Place?

One Piece Odyssey takes place on the island of Zou; the game’s story occurs between the Whole Cake Island and Wano Country arcs. The bounties of the Straw Hat Pirates serve as a good reference point for determining the chapter’s timeline.

In the game, Luffy’s bounty is 1,500,000,000 Berries, the same as in the Whole Cake Saga arc, and Sanji is now wanted “Dead or Alive,” which is a change from his previous “Alive” status. The Straw Hat Pirates’ bounties increase in the Wano Country arc.

4. Is One Piece Odyssey Multiplayer?

One Piece Odyssey is a strictly single-player game with no online features or co-op mode. The game is a turn-based JRPG that focuses on a narrative experience centered around Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirate.

While it would have been great to experience this adventure with friends, the game is designed solely for solo play. Bandai Namco, the game’s publisher, has made it clear that they have no plans to add multiplayer or co-op features.

5. Is One Piece Odyssey Open World?

One Piece Odyssey has a massive open world for players to explore! It is expansive and has specific areas that players can only access by using certain Straw Hat characters.

For instance, Chopper is essential for exploring small caves, while Zoro’s strength and swordsmanship come in handy for slashing through gates.

The game allows you to use all nine Straw Hats characters, Monkey D. Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, Nami, Sanji, Usopp, Nico Robin, Franky, Chopper, and Brook.

12. About One Piece

One Piece is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since July 22, 1997.

The man who had acquired everything in this world, the Pirate King, is Gol D. Roger. The final words he said at the execution tower were “My treasures? If you want it, I’ll let you have it. Look for it; I left all of it at that place.” These words sent many to the seas, chasing their dreams, headed toward the Grand Line, in search of One Piece. Thus began a new age!

Seeking to be the greatest pirate in the world, young Monkey D. Luffy also heads toward the Grand Line in search of One Piece. His diverse crew is joining him along the way, consisting of a swordsman, marksman, navigator, cook, doctor, archaeologist, and cyborg-shipwright, this will be one memorable adventure.
