Remember that one friend you’d talk to after which you’d feel pretty good about your life? Valentina and Sophie had the same friend in college, and after feeling jealous of Ellen’s career, they decide to meet Pathetic Deirdre. But Deirdre quickly sheds the title, labeling them her “pathetic friends,” which surprises the two.
Of course, they derail her book signing and expose her fake life, but ugh, be better, girls! Sid can’t help but obsess over Jesse and Meredith slowly falling into old patterns, which leads to a fight between them which, and I say this for all of us, was hard to watch. So, what will the next episode bring for the How I Met Your Father Gang?
1. Episode 5 Synopsis/Speculation
Sophie and Val have conflicting feelings about brunch with Val’s parents. The gang attends Jesse’s Long Island show.
Ellen’s first workday did not go as well as she had planned. The next episode will answer our queries about her new work life and if it is as glorious as we thought after she got the job. Her work-life problems will translate into our entertainment.
Speaking of feeling good about other people’s setbacks, Sophie and Valentina may have dodged a bullet with Deirdre, but the upcoming brunch with Val’s parents might be too much for them to handle. With both their careers and love lives in the pooper, there are bound to be some awkward conversations.
But nothing beats the awkwardness and betrayal Jesse felt after Sid disclosed that he doesn’t think Meredith loves his best friend. Sid will obviously go to Jesse’s Long Island show, giving them a chance to make up, which I’m sure they will since the next episode is titled Ride or Die.
Charlie is already trying hard to move on from Valentina and seems to be succeeding at the hook-up scene, despite a few issues. But knowing Charlie, and the fact that Val thinks they’ll end up back together, I don’t see the British hunk enjoying the single life for too long.
But while I believe Val and Charlie can be endgame, I can’t say the same for Jesse and Meredith. The two can’t last long, and their going on tour will prove just that! Who knows? We might already see the cracks in their relationship in next week’s episode.

5. Episode 4 Recap
Ellen leaves for her first day at Goliath, leaving Sophie and Valentina feeling insecure and jealous of her steady job. They decide to meet up with Pathetic Deirdre, a college friend they make plans with when they need to feel someone else’s life is worse than theirs.
Meanwhile, Charlie is exploring the hook-up scene and seems to be doing well until one of his one-night stands mistakes his thanks-for-last-night basket for an I-like-you basket. Sid obsesses over Jesse and Meredith, assuming that history will repeat itself and Jesse will get his heart broken again.
Ellen’s first day isn’t going too well either because climbing fifty-one floors, crawling through a vent, and falling into her meeting doesn’t make a good first impression.
Sophie and Valentina meet Deirdre at her book signing, and the book is totally about them, but when they go to her to apologize, she drops the bomb that she thought of them as her pathetic friends. The two best friends call her out, derail her event, and leave on a happier note.
Sid tells Jesse that he doesn’t think Meredith is in love with him, resulting in a fight between them, and Jesse asks his best friend not to come to his Long Island show and storms out.
6. About How I Met Your Father
How I Met Your Father (HIMYF) is a spinoff series of the incredibly successful CBS show, How I Met Your Mother. The original show ran for nine seasons, from 2005 to 2014, quickly making its mark with a dedicated cult-like fanbase.
HIMYF was announced to start production in April 2021 with the Lizzy McGuire star Hilary Duff playing the lead called Sophie, narrating her journey to her children in the future.
The show’s flashbacks will start from Sophie and her close friends navigating love, life and struggles in the modern era of dating, paying bills and more, in 2021.
Created by writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger of This Is Us fame and directed by the original show’s director, Pamela Fryman, the first season of HIMYF is revealed to have 10 episodes. No further details have yet been released.
