Harry Potter Remake Shuts Down All Hope for Fantastic Beasts 4 & More

After the success of the Harry Potter books and films, the Wizarding World took off and capitalized heavily on the nostalgic fictional tale of the Boy Who Lived. After the original film series, spin-off ideas were floating around at WB, including a Marauders story, Voldemort’s origins and Albus Dumbledore’s youth.

Out of the many ideas, Fantastic Beasts came into being. A tale of a Hufflepuff Magizoologist who helped Dumbledore take on Grindelwald. The 2016 film gave new hope to expand the Wizarding World – but it soon went south. The first film’s success was overshadowed by the little appreciation the sequels were met with, and now it may be done for altogether.

WB signed off on the Harry Potter remake, a series that will handle one book per season, bringing some new faces to play the old and beloved characters of J.K. Rowling’s world. However, this decision on the studio’s part means that they are done with Newt Scamander’s story, and we all know why that failed.

Eddie Redmayne’s character had won many hearts, and the inciting premise of the spinoff, added with glimpses of the Wizarding Society outside of Hogwarts, gave us much hope for the future of the film series. However, it all started to go downhill with Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

The story’s primary focus shifted to Dumbledore and his fight with Grindelwald, resulting in the studio getting closer to canon, and they deviated from making an organic story. With the parameters for expansion cut short, coupled with the scandal around Grindelwald actor Johnny Depp and J.K. Rowling, the HP community’s hype for the Fantastic Beasts started to flicker.

Jumping to the release of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore only worsened the situation. A Grindelwald recast, convoluted plot, and Tina’s character reduced to a guest appearance, the box office for the third film shattered all hopes for a fourth instalment.

Now, with WB obviously being keen to invest time and resources in the Harry Potter reboot/remake, we don’t even need the studio to spell out that there will be no Fantastic Beasts 4. The original’s remake was truly the last nail in the coffin for the Newt Scamander spinoff, and the character won’t see the light of day any longer.
