Kamran Gets His Powers in Episode 5 of Ms. Marvel

Episode 5 of Ms. Marvel took us back to 1942 once again. This time we saw Aisha for a more extended period and truly understood her story. While the episode answered some questions, it also left us with new ones.

One such question was about Kamran’s powers. Earlier it was shown that Kamala’s new crush, a ClanDestine, didn’t have any extraordinary powers. He was a skilled fighter but still was ordinary.

In Episode 5, we see him get powers after his mother, Najma, sacrifices herself. However, what we don’t understand is how he got them.

Najma most likely absorbed the Noor from her realm and transferred it to her son, Kamran. Thus, Kamran now holds a little bit of power of the Noor.

The most frustrating aspect of the episode was the lack of explanation of how everything occurred. Clearly, Kamala was the one to save Sana, but how did Aisha summon her? In fact, Aisha, for a second, thought it was a grown-up Sana that had appeared before her.

So, this indicates the Djinns/ClanDestines can use their powers to summon someone. Later, when we return to the present, Kamala pleads with Najma to help her close the veil. She even tells her how she shouldn’t be leaving her son, Kamran, behind.

This gives Najma an idea, and the next thing we know, she steps closer to the veil. As the Noor strikes her and she’s about to die, her eyes start glowing, and she takes Kamran’s name.

Kamran, who’s still in the US, suddenly feels a surge of power enter him, and his eyes start to glow. While we don’t know what Najma thought, intended, or did, it seemed as if she transferred the Noor which struck her to Kamran, who’s a ClanDestine, too.

However, there’s one doubt that I have. By any chance, did Najma transfer her spirit into Kamran’s body? After all, her mission remained incomplete till her demise, and we all know how stubborn she is.

So perhaps, she used the Noor to shift her soul to Kamran’s body, who can then go on to fulfill Najma’s vision. The probability of this seems low because, so far, the show has been pretty simplistic.

There have been no convoluted plotlines or superpower logic. In fact, it’s a tad bit exhausting that all of this seems so vague. Nothing can change that now; hopefully, we’ll have more answers in the final episode.
