How did Echo lose his arm in The Clone Wars/Bad Batch?

Star Wars: The Bad Batch S2 returns with the notoriously good Clone Force 99, who are set to wreak havoc for the Empire!

If you’ve only watched The Bad Batch, you may not be all too familiar with the crew’s history during the Clone Wars. One big question you may have is about Echo’s robotic arm. Why does he have it? How did he lose it in the first place?

During one of the Clone Wars battles, Echo was injured in a blast, lost his arm, and was subsequently captured by the Separatists. While the Separatists tortured him, they also fixed him up with a robotic arm, turning him into a cyborg. He would later be rescued by The Bad Batch.

Let’s give you some more background about Echo. Like most Clone Troopers, Echo was created on Kamino, under the code name CT-21-0408. He served in the Grand Army and was one of the finest Clone Troopers to have fought in the wars.

He started off as a cadet in the Domino Squad, and you’ll be surprised to know that his very first assignment was with Rex! Their task was to guard the Rishi Station moon base. Here, his success in a battle against the Separatists earned him a position in the 501st Legion.

This would be a turning point in his life. In a mission for the 501st Legion, he was to rescue Jedi Piell. The situation turned upside down, and Echo was severely injured in the ensuing battle. In fact, all his team members even presumed him to be dead!

In reality, he was captured by the Separatists, who tortured him even further. The only mercy they showed him was fixing him up with a robotic arm to replace the arm he lost.

But don’t worry, there’s hope at the end of the tunnel! Rex leads an infiltration mission once he realizes that his former teammate was imprisoned by the Separatists. Here’s the happy ending you’ve been waiting for: Once Echo is finally rescued, he joins The Bad Batch as the team member you see him today!

Echo has been through a lot of trials, and even after escaping the Separatists, his loyalties were constantly questioned—all on the account of his robotic arm. But as depicted in the TV series, he is the embodiment of good conscience and is the one who keeps the team ethically aligned. Looking forward to more Echo in The Bad Batch S2!
