Avatar The Last Airbender has been a part of many childhoods; its compelling storytelling is set in its own fantastical world with its own culture, lore, etc.

The dynamic characters and their character arcs are all entwined with deeper enduring themes like self-discovery, morality, friendship, etc., with a hearty pinch of humor that has won the hearts of millions.

This is why Avatar: The Last Airbender, produced by Netflix, has had such a heartfelt welcome, as the flame for the Avatar fans was ignited once again.

In this article, we will explain how Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender ended.

In the eighth episode, titled “Legends,” the Fire Nation, led by Commander Zhao, invades Agna Qel’a. Zhao kills their legendary Moon Spirit, leading the Northern Water Tribe to lose their water-bending powers.

Zhao had led the troops even though Uncle Irohas had warned him it would disturb the balance of their world. However, Zhao had stuck to his plan.

In retaliation, Katara leads her water-bending students to fight with the fire nation once Master Pakku approves. Sokka and Yue were tasked with protecting people from the ice wall and injuries.

However, amid this, the flying Lemur, Momo, gets injured, and to heal him, Yue shows Sokka the sacred oasis. The Moon and Water spirits were contained as Koi fishes in the sacred oasis.

Avatar Kuruk’s knife signaled him of impending danger for the Moon and Water spirits, and he had warned Aang.

To protect the spirits, Aang and Katra headed toward the sacred oasis, but Zuko intervened, so Katara dealt with him, while Aang reached the sacred oasis where Yui and Sokka were.

Zhao had already captured the Moon spirit in a bag, and with Iroh’s attack, the bag slipped.

Aang tried to recuse it using his water-bending powers, but it was too late- Zhao had managed to stab and kill the Moon spirit.

The havoc wreaked with the death of the spirit, the sky turned a crimson shade of red, and the moon faded. The water-benders had been stripped of their powers now.

Aang dived into the oasis to salvage the ocean spirit; they merged, and Aang transformed into a massive water “Whalezilla” and attacked the Fire Nation’s soldiers.

Zhao tries to run away but is spotted by Prince Zuko, who engages in a duel with him over a bridge. He is furious that Zhao has tried to kill and take his place.

Zhao taunted the prince more by saying how his father, the Fire Lord, didn’t want him as the heir; this further aggravated the prince, who let go of Zhao.

Zhao was preparing to take Zuko out from behind, but Iroh came in the nick of time and destroyed the bride, leading to Zhao’s death. Finally, the rivalry ended.

Back at the oasis, Sokka and Yui try to find a solution to bring back the Moon spirit.

Yui realized she had a part of the Moon Spirit’s energy within her as the Moon Spirit had healed her earlier, which meant she could take its place.

Yui sacrificed herself by entering the pond and becoming the Moon; the Whalezilla saw the moon back up in the sky and realized its partner was back.

The Ocean Spirit returns, and so does Aang. The balance in nature is restored along with the Water-bending powers.

The Fire Nation’s fleets also receded. However, Agna Qel’a mourns the many lives it had lost.

Yui’s father, Chief Arnook, was proud of his daughter for saving their tribe and comforted Sokka. Master Pakku also thanked Katara. Once again, Katara, Sokka, and Aang resumed their journey.

1. What Happened in Omashu?

The Fire Nation had conquered Omashu as the Fire Lord Ozai had sent Princess Azula with a battalion while the world was distracted by the battle in Agna Qel’a.

This is the reason why Lord Ozai was unfazed by the battle lost in Agna Qel’a.

Omashu was the second-biggest Earth Kingdom stronghold, conquered by the Fire Nation. Only Ba Sing Se remains uncaptured now.

A huge disruption will take place due to this imbalance in power, this makes the plot for Season 2 even more exciting.

As the Great Sage revealed to Lord Ozai, Sozin’s comet would be returning “soon” and boosting the Fire Army’s fire-bending powers,
