How does Aunt Polly die in Peaky Blinders S6?

Aunt Polly was one of the strongest characters after Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders. She was the thread that tied everyone together and was the someone who balanced Thomas’ ambition by being more grounded with family.

In the season 5 finale, we see some people kill Aberama Gold, the man who married Polly, but we don’t know what happened to Polly. In the first few minutes, we are shown that Aunt Polly is killed as well; we see the family attending her funeral.

While this might come as a shock, it was an abrupt but definitive ending to the character due to the sad and untimely demise of Helen McRory – the legend who played Aunt Polly. But how exactly did Aunt Polly die?

Aunt Polly was killed by three soldiers from the Dublin Brigade of the IRA (Irish Republican Army). They did so to change the structure of Thomas Shelby’s organization by eliminating the second most important person of the company.

Polly & Aberama Gold

In season 6, episode 1, after Tommy returns defeated from the rally, he receives a phone call. The phone call is from a woman from the IRA, who says that the IRA intervened in Mosley’s assassination, ruined it, and killed Tommy’s two men.

She goes on to say how they also intervened elsewhere and killed a third member of the Shelby company. While Tommy doesn’t know who the thor person is, he finds out because the IRA sends all their bodies for an honorable funeral.

Only when Thomas uncovers the bodies does he realize it was Aunt Polly and breaks into tears for the first time. It isn’t shown how Aunt Polly is killed.

But the reason behind her death was that the IRA wanted to weaken Thomas’ position, so they decided to take out the most crucial member of the Shelby family and the person he depended on the most – Aunt Polly.

Michael Gray

Due to this, the season has taken a turn where Michael (Polly’s son) and Thomas Shelby have grown farther apart, and by the looks of it, they’re going to be significant rivals in the show.

However, I do not think Michael is the big villain, even if he’s after Thomas for vengeance.

In the Peaky Blinders season 6, Thomas has got bigger fish to catch, who are the likes of Mosley.

While the main villains haven’t been revealed yet explicitly, I think the show has gotten a banger start, and it will make up for a gruesome season, with no mercy and no holds barred.
