In the latest episode of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Arondir finally manages to escape the orcs after Adar assigns him a new task. In the same episode, he again escapes the orcs by catching arrows with his bare hands and running at an incredible speed.
In last week’s episode, things did not end well for Arondir. After he tried to escape the orcs with his elf buddies, he was caught. Two of his friends ended up dead, and Arondir was imprisoned once again.
Episode 3 hinted that Arondir would soon meet the mysterious leader who had been leading the orcs all this time, Adar. If you remember, when Arondir was imprisoned by the orcs, one of them chanted, “For Adar”.
Arondir was made to do manual labor alongside other elves, including his tower mates, Revion and Medhor. It is then that Arondir tries to escape the orcs. As a result, he gets dragged down to their leader, Adar.
Episode 4 revealed the true identity of Adar, at least as of now. Adar is also an elf, with a negative aura and some mysterious scarring on his face. Arondir and Adar have a conversation, where Arondir asks the latter who he is and why the orcs call him ‘Father’.
To this, Adar replies quite vaguely. He explains that Arondir has been told many lies, and the lies run so deep that one has to remake the entire world once again and start afresh, which only gods can do. But Adar is no god.
In Episode 4, Arondir is finally able to escape the orcs, all thanks to Adar. Arondir is able to escape his imprisonment when Adar assigns him the task to go back to the watchtower named Ostirith and deliver a message.
To complete Adar’s task, Arondir had to leave and thus, he managed to escape the orcs. Later during the episode, Arondir also saves Theo from the orcs. Right before an orc is about to attack Theo, Arondir jumps in to save the day, and in turn, Theo’s life.
Arondir and Theo manage to escape the orcs through the woods. We see Arondir catch incoming arrows with his bare hands, which helps ease the process quite a bit. The scene is quite well shot, with great background music and slow-motion running.
All in all, Arondir manages to escape the orcs once again by virtue of his tricks. Back at Ostirith, Arondir successfully delivers Adar’s message. The message was that humans can live as long as they forsake all claims to the land. Or else, Adar will come for them.
Though Arondir managed to get rid of the orcs the first time because Adar assigned him with a task, he escapes the second time and saves Theo as he proves himself to be a skillful warrior. So, I would say it is a mixture of both!
