How the Black Dahlias in Wednesday Foreshadowed Season 1’s Events

Netflix’s Wednesday has quickly climbed the charts to be one of the top-viewed shows of 2022, but did you know the series hinted at season 1’s events and real killers since the premiere episode? If the frequent use of the word “woe” in all the episode titles wasn’t enough, the Black Dahlia flower surely gave away the top themes of season 1.

The flower only cropped up a couple of times in the series, but can you name the only two people who’d given the flower to our kooky, sorry spooky, protagonist? Yes, you guessed it, Ms. Thornhill and Tyler were the only ones who thought of giving the flower to Wednesday, the same two people later revealed as Jericho’s killers.

And though they gave it under the pretense of its link to Wednesday’s favorite unsolved murder and, thus, her favorite flower, there was a deeper meaning behind it. When Ms. Thornhill handed the black dahlia to Wednesday in the first episode, it wasn’t a welcome gift but a warning for all the death and betrayal to follow.

When Tyler handed her the flower in the penultimate episode, his reveal as the Hyde in the same episode’s final moments proved it as yet another foreshadowing moment of his lies and treachery.

The flower represents all the death, betrayal, and ominous events that passed in the series’ first season. And here you thought it just went so well with Wednesday’s favored color scheme and was neatly named after her favorite murder!

But if you think we’re just finding strings to pull at after the shocking end, let’s make it a little more interesting for you. Did you know the Black Dahlia murder case occurred in Hyde Park in Boston, Massachusetts?

Wednesday’s mentions to Boston shunned aside, we can’t avoid the fact that Hyde Park is just a dead giveaway to the monster’s real identity behind the murders of Nevermore students and Jericho citizens.

Ms. Thornhill a.k.a Laurel Gates

One last connection that our goth protagonist made between Laurel and Ms. Kinbott, but failed to make between the two actual killers, was the use of the same black dahlias from Tyler and Thornhill. If she’d made that link, she might have solved the mystery of who’s the Hyde and the true identity of Laurel Gates sooner.

Don’t buy what we’re selling? You’re welcome to rewatch the show on Netflix as many times as possible until you accept our theories are just as accurate as the fact that Xavier is not the Hyde.
