House of the Dragon Episode 8: Release Date and Speculation

Finally, a great episode after a while. Episode 7 had me on the edge of my seat especially during the second half. As things grow worse between the Green Queen and the Black Princes, their children have also begun their battles.

Aemond loses an eye but gains a dragon, a fair trade if you ask Sir Otto and me. Rhaenyra and Daemon tie the knot after faking Laenor’s death, and the Velaryons lose both their children in one episode.

The fate of the Iron Throne is unclear, especially after Alicent has recruited more allies to her side and Rhaenyra has gained Daemon as her King Consort.

1. Episode 8 Speculation

With episode 7 establishing teams Green and Black, audiences can expect things to only get more intense in the upcoming episode.

Episode 8, titled “The Lord of the Tides,” will feature the final time jump in Season 1 and show the hatred that has festered amidst the House of the Dragon children over the years.

We expect a stronger Aemond, who will only grow more vengeful towards Rhaenyra and Daemon’s children.

With Viserys weaker than ever and Rhaenyra and Daemon away from King’s Landing, we can expect Otto and Alicent to make their move for the Iron Throne’s succession. This is especially likely because episode 9 is titled “The Green Council,” so you can expect things to start going Alicent’s way by the end of next week’s episode.

As the upcoming episode’s title suggests, the fragile relationship between the Targaryens and Velaryons will be tested. And after Episode 7, the following week’s episode will definitely feature an all-blown-out war between the Green Queen and the Black Princess.

The title also suggests that the decision between choosing Laenor or Laena’s next of kin as the heir of Driftmark will be taken sooner than expected. While Rhaenys supports Laena’s children, Lord Corlys has yet to prove his loyalty for his wife’s wishes.

Will Daemon and Rhaenyra spawn new heirs of pure Valyrian blood? Who will succeed in earning the title of Lord of the Tides? Next week’s episode will answer these questions in depth.

Season 1 Episode 8 Preview | House of the Dragon (HBO)

At Laena’s funeral, Rhaenyra and Daemon reunite after a decade. Rhaenyra confronts Daemon saying that he had abandoned her, but Dameon justifies his actions by claiming that he was protecting her since she was a child. Rhaenyra reminds him that they both have grown now, and they share a night of passion.

Meanwhile, Aemond takes advantage of the quiet night to steal Vhagar and claims him as his own dragon. When Rhaena confronts the young prince, a fight breaks out between the children, and in rage, Lucerys slashes Aemond’s eye.

Distraught, Alicent demands justice, and when Rhaenyra successfully gets Viserys to take her side, the Green Queen attacks her. Aemond finally calms his mother by saying the price of his eye was more than enough, for he had finally gained a dragon.

Rhaenyra and Daemon marry each other after faking Laenor’s death by hatching a devious plan, strengthening Rhaenyra’s chances of ascending the Iron Throne. Alicent gains support of her father, who is back as the King’s Hand, and is the new Lord Strong.
